    Late winter food

Grain sorghum is a great option. And you can broadcast small seed into it in early fall.

    Mobile No-Till Setup

Genesis just came out with a lighter model. It’s the M5. A Woods FPS60 may work for you. It’s not really a no till drill.

All Things Logging/Timber Harvest - Discussion

It’s already the most costly I believe. Up to around 150 billion. A lot of our wood now comes from Canada so natural or unnatural disasters don’t really affect our lumber prices.

    Speaking of cold

I have lots of heated garments. Funny I know since I live in the Deep South but what can I say. I like to be warm and comfy while in the stand. Hands down you get a better bang for your buck with heated base layers. I also have a Milwaukee heated coat. It is very nice and it’s also windproof...

    Stay warm fellows

Same thing happened to me the last time I made it up there for shotgun season. By the time I made it to the truck, I could barely type the code to unlock the door.

    Stay warm fellows

I sure do wish I could hunt Iowa every year but I definitely do not envy y’all’s weather. Iowa is a better deer hunting state but I’ll take my Georgia winters. Stay warm and safe and Happy New Year!!!!

    Brassicas into cowpeas

Maybe just run a drill through them. I’ve planted them down here in Georgia but the deer wipe them out.

State forestry vs mossyoak nativ nurseries

Will saw tooth’s survive and do well up there? If so, I’ll mail you a bunch of acorns. All you have to do is push them into the soil or raise them in pots for a year then transplant them. I’ve had great success planting from acorns but I’m in middle Georgia.

If I lived up there, I’d gladly be your cull man.

Willing to drop it off in middle Georgia? Awesome offer!

    Pioneer Seed

That’s true but I doubt anyone will know. Most people are only planting small plots and not for profit.

    Pioneer Seed

Why not buy from a farmer when he harvest the seed, store in a cool place, and plant it the following year? Corn that way would be $4.00 a bushel.

    Cull buck pics

It a shame he had to go. If he survived EHD, you would assume he had built antibodies to it and his offspring may have been more likely to survive it.

    Deer #’s down statewide???

And with thermals and NV comes poaching. Found a decent 9 while I was up there that had been shot.

    Deer #’s down statewide???

Don’t discount bobcats. I know they are relatively new in Iowa. Doubt they are “The” problem but they dang sure aren’t helping.

    Deer #’s down statewide???

Non resident here so take my opinion with that in mind. I drew a tag this year after waiting for 6 years. I hunted in Appanoose as well as Davis county. First, it was the worst and most discouraging rut I have ever seen up there. Horrible weather and yes, imo, a drastic decrease in deer. Found...

Bucks like this - what buck would fight him?!?

I don’t like the way he’s looking at me. No sir, I do not owe you any money.

How best to determine cash rent acres?

Planted acres and harvested acres vary because of crop damage and down here in the south dry land corners where the irrigation doesn’t reach. Crop damage isn’t your responsibility. I would however caution you to asses your relationship with your renter. Yes, 5/6 acres at $300.00 an acre adds...

    Goals

I shoot what makes me happy. If I’m a guest, I follow the rules I’m given even if it means passing up what I’d normally shoot. What would I do? I’d shoot him and not think twice about it. But I’ve never had a chance at that caliber of deer and only see them occasionally when I’m in the Midwest.
