    Veterans Day

When I was in the Air Force back in the late 80s and early 90s thanks was not what we generally got so I can assure yall that this push to thank veterans is much appreciated. My dad, brother, grandfather, Father in law, cousins, are all veterans. My son will most likely be an Air Force pilot...

    What's next for Republicans?

Funny, all three of those are liberal states and have been for years but if you ask them their policies are the way it should be. Just reinforces the definition of insanity.

    Tracking dog

My buddy who I spoke of above does make some good money. But he works a day job as well as tracking. He sleeps very little and loses a lot of weight. He’s not a big fellow to begin with. But he’s ate up with tracking. Doesn’t even hunt anymore. Loves to see people get excited when they find...

    Tracking dog

Sorry about that. It’s happened to all of us unfortunately. Next year, find you someone before the season. Try to find some references. A good dog would have bayed that deer up for you to either finish or decide if he may make it.

    Tracking dog

Depends on the tracker and area. Down here in middle Georgia, it’s about $150-$200. Most of them will help you drag it out. The drones are $250.00 I’m sure the drones are top notch but a good dog is amazing.

    Tracking dog

Just a little FYI for you guys. I’m in Georgia and have a buddy that has tracked for years. While not the shot we want to take, he says the ones he likes best are the gut shots. He said as long as people don’t push them he will find them. Just too much scent for the dog not to be able to track...

    Deer touching brassicas

And people ask us how we can sit out in the weather, not shoot anything, and still have a good time. Your son’s experience is why. Some of my best memories have nothing to do with killing anything

    Clover

Here you guys go. Anyone that’s knows about pines and pine straw know how acidic it makes the soil. This is where some Durana spilled and is growing quite well considering nothing has been done to help it.

    Clover

Thanks. Just trying to help with the small amount of knowledge I have.

    Clover

Yes sir. I think if it and a ladino were planted side by side the ladino may win in preference but Durana is the bulldog of the clover world. I have some that has spilled out in some pines and is growing very well in pine straw. No soil amendments and no fertilizer at all. I’ll try and take a...

    Clover

I’m in the south and hot, dry weather is normal. I have not found any clover that comes close to Durana in terms of drought resistance. In a very hot,dry year it will go dormant. Dormant to the point that you think it’s dead. No clover showing or very little at best. When the cool rains and...

    Hudson's biggest buck to date

Congrats to both of you. I agree with not putting restrictions on what kids shoot. Very few of us got to that point in our hunting career without killing a bunch of deer. If we want our kids to grow to love the sport, We have to let them enjoy it and mature at their own pace. Not jump right up...

    Brassicas short and slight yellow

Rye has allopathic properties that help suppress weeds in the spring. It also greens up faster in the spring and grows more in the winter. Wheat isn’t bad especially if you plant awnless wheat.

Checking cameras and replacing batteries now

A lawnmower battery with the cable that plugs into the bottom of the camera. I’m in Georgia and I put some cameras out August 18th that are still showing 100%. The ones that are on regular AAs are on their 3rd set.

    Frost, freeze warning tonight….

Sounds like y’all need to do a control burn across the entire southern Iowa region. Kill all of the nasties in the leaf litter

    Advice on killing poison ivy…

Remedy can translocate through the roots and get into the roots of other trees/shrubs if their roots are intermingled. It will kill the poison ivy.

    Drone spraying herbicides…is that done?

Very true. But I would think there are some. If so, I don’t see why the drone would not work.

    Drone spraying herbicides…is that done?

Don’t know why but aerial applications do not use the same amount of water. We have a lot of crop dusters down here in Georgia and many chemicals are put out with 6 gallons of water. Op, Not sure why it wouldn’t work. They use them down here in the south. If they didn’t work, they wouldn’t...

What year did you start food plotting?

Going to sound like BS but it’s true. Planted my first one around 1980 when I was 12. I had noticed that there were a lot of rabbits in my dad’s garden and they like his peas. So I went to the hardware store, bought some peas, and went and planted them with a garden rake. Planted them out in the...

Free chestnut, persimmon, hybrid oak, pear, etc.

Imo, persimmons are the best fruit for a deer. They always make. Will grow on the worst dirt. Handle drought better than any other fruit that I know of. And will dribble the fruit all season long.
