    Switchgrass help/recommendation

Congrats on the purchase! Many on this site are huge fans of RC Bigrock. iowabowhunter is a good source for it. Would have been better to spray this fall and once more in the spring, but I think you could spray it spring and early summer and drill switch mid summer. I would personally burn...

    Advice on dam erosion prevention….

I have the exact same thing going right now, just rebuilt a pond dam. I talked with Welter Seed and they recommended their “Soil Saver” seed mix which is a blend of cool season grasses. I just drilled the seed last weekend so praying for a couple of light rains.

    Brassicas

Sorry to stir up a debate but as always I enjoy learning from others on this site! Farm is SE Iowa Van Buren County. I do normally no till drill but this is an area that I had a dozer clear so it has some holes from stumps that need some work. I will probably need to fill it up and run a box...

    Brassicas

Cleared about 3/4 acre of timber/brush yesterday for a good plot. Hopefully going to seed it next weekend. Given the time of year, would you do brassicas (mix I have is 50% radishes) or rye? Will be adjacent to a soybean plot.

Tell me why we should shoot more does

I agree does are over harvested in many areas. There are pockets that have too many deer I believe but not any of the areas I hunt.

    Wow Just Wow....... Land Prices

250 acres (3 tracts) just sold at auction in Van Buren county for $4,925/ac up to about $6k/ac. Good looking hunting farm with about 50/50 mix of timber and tillable (albeit very low csr). 5% buyers fee on top of prices. Seems like the prices were down in this particular auction.

    Alfalfa

I am going to spray it as soon as weather cooperates and drill in some alfalfa. Looked at it again today and very little, if any existing alfalfa in the stand

    Alfalfa

Going to order some alfalfa from Welter Seeds and likely do a couple plots ranging from .5ac up to 2ac. Likely going to put them in hay fields. Hay fields may have MINIMAL VERY old faint alfalfa. Very little if any. Do you think this will be ok or do I still need to kill it off and plant...

    Clover

Question on spraying Cleth and Butyrac on young clover. I have sprayed it quite a bit on mature clover but never young. Late spring this year I drilled clover around timber edges. It ranges from 2” to 6” tall but has not spread yet (can still easily see drill rows). It is really weedy with...

    clethodim

I have limited experience, but would say 2-4 weeks. I sprayed mix of cloth and butyrac a few weeks ago and the grass really isn’t brown but also seems to have stopped growing.

    Pine trees for rubbing post

Was thinking about setting a treated pine post, 2x6 “outrigger” and hang a rope like I have seen others do. Most all of these posts are 8’. Not sure how tall it needs to be? 2’ in ground and 6’ out of ground? How far above ground to bottom rope? Last year I set out cut willow trees with...
