2024 - Yellowstone (not the park), Mountain Runs, Kitty Cats, and Bucks (and Bucks).

Thank you for the kind words, everybody! Unfortunately, I didn't harvest a deer either this year. But, when the family dog went missing, we figured a lion had gotten him. Some of our awesome neighbors came out with their hounds, and we found one 200 yards from the house in the rocks with a...

2024 - Yellowstone (not the park), Mountain Runs, Kitty Cats, and Bucks (and Bucks).

2024 made me a Dad, and a Colorado Resident. It was a slow season, I didn't draw any tags and had to rely on OTC or Leftover + Private Land licenses in Colorado. Oregon didn't treat us all that great while we were there Elk hunting. However, I killed a bull elk and pronghorn on the ranch I now...

    Shoulder blade hit- thoughts?

We've had one of our collared bucks total two vehicles, a Tesla and a Nissan Xterra. Most of our deer have leg injuries from getting hit by cars but only 4 deer total have been killed out of around 175 captures from vehicles. Tough critters for sure!

    Shed poaching article

Just ignore that every spot I've walked on opening day for the last couple of years already had boot tracks everywhere in the snow or mud. It's impossible to enforce, shed seasons along with permits only hurts the people who do things the right way and follow the rules. I didn't even bother shed...

    Shed poaching article

No, we need to stop with more stamps and licenses. Ruining our freedoms with more permits isn't a good idea I've been saying this for years.

    2024-25 Team Contest Score Thread(Teams):

They're wild free-range deer, no deer farms here. Doing a disease testing program, my job is to catch them using a dart gun that shoots at a maximum of 30 yards, put GPS collars on them, gather biological samples, and reverse the drug which puts them back on their feet right where they went down.

    Chestnuts

The first pic is 2024, the second is 2023, and the third is 2019. The trees would be 8 years old this year. The others are all over 12' now and producing. We got them all from Skip @Sligh1 as 8-12"

If only catch-and-release bucks and other species counted, we'd be on a roll, team 2! I had to cancel my Maryland trip due to having to take an unforeseen trip back home to Iowa and work.

    Chestnuts

Chestnuts shot up HUGE this year and we were able to harvest over 10lbs and we're starting them as seedlings for the ranch. We brought the kiddo to see the Iowa farms for the first time.

    Wyoming/Nevada/Utah Draw Results

Ewe Bighorn in Wyoming, I don’t buy PP just do random for Wyoming Moose. $84.18 per year plus the two week hold on the $2,767 for Moose in Wyoming since I don't buy PP, last year I'm putting in for that since 90/10 and Wyoming shifting tags around to only allow the one random moose tag for 1 in...

    Wyoming/Nevada/Utah Draw Results

https://www.huntinfool.com/resources/draw-deadlines https://www.huntreminder.com I ended up not putting in for California this year, just not worth the $260 price tag every year for me.

    Wyoming NR shed hunting

As a Wyoming NR you are no longer allowed to shed hunt until 7 days after season opener for Residents and must have a Conservation Stamp. "Shed antlers and horns conservation stamp requirement for nonresidents (HB0276) This bill establishes shed antlers and horns on public land as property of...

    Wyoming Elk

My advice would be don’t just build the PP’s apply for a stellar unit like area 16, 100, or 1. You still have the random chance of drawing the tag, don’t just built up PP because there’s a chance you might pull that OIL tag on random.

    Wyoming Elk

When you cut tags from 25% allocation to 10% on the NR side with people who saved up 25+ years of PP for Sheep and Moose it seems directed. Now with 90/10 it’ll take those people until they’re died to draw the tag. Seems a little deceptive on Wyoming’s side of things. I believe they’re going to...

    Wyoming Elk

Wyoming is anti-Non Resident. They’ll switch to a 90/10 situation for Elk, Deer, and Pronghorn soon along with a Regular tag increase next year. Time to burn those points on the campfire and call it good imo. I’ll keep putting in and hopefully draw the random tag this year.

2023 25¢ Pony Rides, Furthest North and Furthest South, Catchin’ Deers, Cold Weather in October, Ibex in Flordias, and Bombs + Downed Fighter Jets.

Before the “why the diaper on your face” comments. We’re taking disease samples from these critters and don’t want to contaminate the samples or the deer. We sterilize everything and all wild animals are handled via an approved protocol.
