    Timber Care Question

I've been seeing and reading more and more (most recent in the Prairie & Woodlands Iowa Magazine...I recommend subscribing to this if you are into TSI and planting natives etc) on the benefits to burning in timber. It seems to reestablish native browse grasses and forbes, and fight back...

    Firebreaks out of frost seeding?

I had native prairie put in 16 acres this June, but with the residual herbicide that was used to kill vegetation before the planting, firebreaks were not seeded by my contractor(thought it would kill the clover etc). This field is not easily accessible so I want firebreaks there for fire safety...

    Prickly Ash - Help

I've got a decent stand of timber - oaks and hickory - and I did TSI a few years back. Now I have a spreading prickly ash problem. Fairly dense in some areas. Small ones 4-6 ft tall and less than an inch around...in fact less than 1/2 inch mostly. Too many to cut by hand and treat stumps. Any...

    Anybody seeing more coyotes?

I live in the QC, and commute to land near Bonaparte. I haven't spent nearly as much time in the woods as I have wanted to since I bought the place in 2002, but since then I have never seen a coyote in the woods. The last 3 times I went down(every other weekend the last 6 weeks) I've seen...

    Burn for natives

I'm on the verge or working with PF to plant some native grasses(they are recommending CP25) at my place in SE Iowa. The PF rep is a busy guy and is just going to spray once or twice before drilling...but he'd like to see a burn done and he doesn't have the time. Does anyone know of a guy or an...

    Is this Legal

Just curious how you all would handle a situation. I'll leave out the background this particular "neighbor" has with me and two other neighbors to the west and north of me. This neighbor has land to the north of me, he now says he has access to the land to the south of me(he says he just got...

One less big'n for this weekend

found this guy dead on my property last Friday. Didn't see any obvious wounds, but he had been dead a week or so and was a bit too stinky to turn over. Would have been nice to see him this Saturday around 7:30 a.m. http://www.iowawhitetail.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5097 Also saw this...

    Seed Sellers

Howdy - I have some property near mt. Pleasant in the SE corner of the state, but I am coming from the Iowa City area this weekend. Anybody have some names of places where I can get some red or ladino clover inexpensively? I checked a few places out locally that want 25 bucks a bag for a...

    Good Processors

Can anybody recommend a good processor in between the Washington/Iowa City area and the Quad Cities area? I currently go to Kramers in LaPorte City and it is great, but 4 hours out of the way. I like their sausage and the way they vacuum seal their burger/sausage. Thanks all!
