Our deer numbers stink, but are rebounding from ehd last year. Our turkey numbers are fantastic. Noticed larger broods this year after summer trapping aggressively last summer. We do use insecticides with our fungicide pass on corn and beans, but we use a pyrethroid instead of neonics.
The corn you buy for planting is a hybrid. The corn harvested from those hybrids is not. If you plant that you will be very disappointed. Besides it more than likely being a violation of the tech agreement the farmer signed when buying those hybrids.
I sat most of the day. First spot was ruined after a group pushed the neighboring property so went to plan b. Ended up seeing 16 deer in the last hour of daylight. 6 bucks and 10 does. One buck made me think pretty hard, but no trail camera history besides this year so was unsure of the age. Any...
I will be going after this buck Saturday. Looks today just like he did 2 years ago. Have a picture of him 2 days ago in a corn plot so pretty excited to go after him.
We had ehd terrible last year. Numbers were horrible. This year it is better than last year but down from 2 years ago. Found about 20 dead ones last year. Only 4 this year so hopefully it keeps getting better again. Before late last summer our numbers were the best they had been in a long time.
If you can get hooked up with a larger dealer or a DSM you might be able to get plot seed for free. Channels plot seed comes in tiny bags and what isn't used gets thrown together. Might be able to get their leftover plot seed that's been mixed together. I just use whatever we cleaned out of the...
I'm no help. Haven't grown Pioneer for quite a few years. We have planted 100% channel for quite a while. Are talking about for plots or for commercial purposes?
What kind of crops do you guys grow on the tillable? Went fishing in Saskatchewan a couple times. It was always interesting seeing and trying to figure out what the different crops were on the drive up and back.
I can't remember the last time I asked permission on a new property. Just ask permission on the same farms I've hunted for a long time. Next year I might ask permission on a new farm to take my daughter youth season. There's a farm with loads of deer and the owners like my daughter a lot so I...
Funny question, but do u have a lot of jackrabbits? We used to see one once in a while, but can't remember the last time I saw one. Always thought they were pretty neat critters.
Have pictures of 3 target bucks this year. Overall deer numbers way down. Got hammered by ehd last year. Found 4 is all this year. Silver lining is less deer to ruin my new tree plantings I guess. Picture of some of the bucks i found last year.
The easy answer is to use whatever you want because you are the landowner. For instance I farm a 160 that I pay rent for the whole 160. Only plants and harvests about 155. You can set the total rent due and the tenant can divide it by how ever many acres he wants. You can use fsa certified acres...
When we were finishing harvest by my house. We saw maybe 30 birds come out of the 35 acres of corn there. It is bordered on 2 sides by a brushy creek and a quarter mile from a very overgrown bike trail and a quarter mile from 80 acres of crp. Another farm we had about 30 birds come out that has...
I had my first sit of the year last night. Actually first bow sit in a very long time. Had a blast. Saw a dozen deer including my number one buck. He was bumping does in the field but ran out of daylight before he got close enough.
Saw a ton of birds harvesting this year. More birds than I've seen in probably 20 years. Hunted a couple hours Saturday and came up empty. Birds are hanging tight to the little bit of corn that is left.
I could be wrong, but I thought cedar berries needed to be heated up to germinate. Like going through the digestive system of a critter. Someone correct me if I'm giving false information.
