    Question on Turkey numbers….

So what’s your solution then? You lost me when you compared South Dakota to Iowa (Large % of the state in Upland habitat vs low % of the state in Turkey habitat) apples to oranges………. I know a 50 acre farm, good habitat, good cover, good roosting; the 9 yards for turkey habitat. Getting...

    Glyphosate

Well yeah, anyone who lives down here knows you don’t go there for best price……….

    Glyphosate

MFA is the coop in Leon. Farm and home in Osceola definitely carry glysophate……. Agriland & New coop both carry many varieties including generics as well.

    Question on Turkey numbers….

100000% agree. I’ve got a buddy who owns several 100 acres across multiple counties in southern Iowa. All have been heavily trapped over the last 2 seasons. He’s successfully trapping too, killing lots of them. This spring, every single farm he owns is noticeably better in numbers...

When to spray grass and weeds in plot

Agreed, now is a good time to spray as far as time of the year. I’d pick a good day, marginal winds and warmer with some sunshine. Spray during the middle of the day when plants are most susceptible to up-taking that herbicide in.

    Burning corn residue?

Seed to soil contact is huge with CRP planting, if you’re using a drill like stated above; you’ll be golden. Residue is your friend in these situations. I also wouldn’t worry what the first year looks like, it’s the following that is I’ll tell the story. Good luck. Looks like you’ve already...

    Burning corn residue?

2 reasons why you shouldn’t burn: Lots of your nutrients are tied up in that residue, burn it and well it’s gone forever. CRP seedlings will all have nutrient uptake therefor you’ll need to replace that nutrient lost from burning somehow, unlikely your soil is loaded with nutrient based off...

    Future of CRP

    Future of CRP

So where does ripping out trees, destroying creek beds, tiling everything to the hills and farming fence row to fence row align with the goals of the CRP program? I agree with what you saying, but none of this goes with what CRP was originally designed for. So today, because so much has...

    Future of CRP

I think we’re saying the same thing. I agree with majority of what you’re saying and I’m not advocating for all CRP or similiar programs to go away. My issue is that some of these programs have given certain groups of people opportunities to make money off ground that either should be farmed...

    Future of CRP

you lost me at down goes cash rents……. I also work in your “said” line of business and I have not one customer who cheers when rental rates increase because the neighbor up the road enrolled their CRP for 285$/acre. CRP was not designed to compete against famers, today it does. I also think...

    Future of CRP

Bingo!!! I think there’s a huge opportunity for small grains as well. But yet again, no infrastructure to support those crops to be moved across the state. We’ve got rail systems and great roads that make getting across Iowa for the most part pretty easy. All it’s going to take is for...

    Future of CRP

It’s foolish to think that farmers would automatically put those acres back into row crop production……….. There’s lots of acres over the last 10-15 years that have been destroyed just to farm just to then put into CRP. Those acres need to go back to net O profit land. 90csr2 dirt in northern...

    New bill

What you mean farm flippers overnight? Haven’t you seen what’s already going on? Every parcel south of Des Moines is being chopped up. It’s disgusting watching greed ruin southern Iowa one 40 acre parcel at a time…………

2025-26 deer season change wish list

Jesse and Cody were taking bets on if I would come back and hunt this year. That group of guys is the last of the Mohicans. If nothing else I need to get back on Saturday night just to drink some Busch Latte’s with everyone. Like you said though, some of my fondest memories hunting were with...

2025-26 deer season change wish list

Yeah I guess I’ll agree to disagree. I’m 35 years old, I don’t own any land yet. So my entire hunting career has merely been based off permission and relationships. You say 25 years and I say 5 years, Tomato / Tamata…….

2025-26 deer season change wish list

We use to have a percentage of hunters that didn’t care about antlers or growing “booners” and that was ok. We still had plenty of deer to hunt. Now today, you’re the OutKast if you don’t kill a 5.5 year old 170 “ deer. The hunting world has made it a giant competition, hence why we’re not...

2025-26 deer season change wish list

It’s pretty eye opening how far apart we as deer hunters are on agreeing there’s problems with what is going on today in Iowa and our deer herd. I think some of you forget the Oceans have become vacated of species of fish due to over harvesting. None of us have ever harvested a wild American...

2025-26 deer season change wish list

I don’t buy it either. It’s very very easy to make an increase in price and not even have to justify it. Look at the world we live in today, every single thing has gone up in price and the justification behind it is what? Nothing………… So the state in every single aspect of their revenue...
