I do if it is on the ridge and catches wind. Mine is currently at a river bottom farm and not anchored as the wind doesnt really blow there as bad. I will say if I could do mine over I would make it about 16" shorter. I went way too tall.
I use the Allied Sinking De-Icer. Worked good last year and has worked good this year. I actually just ordered another one yesterday off of amazon. $52 on Amazon or $40 at Farm and Fleet
This is what stands out to me the most. Round here, every time someone talks about politics its a laughing stock. Just laughs and jokes. We KNOW they corrupt, we KNOW they are robbing us. But we also know we can't do shit about it. Its a stacked deck. Our forefathers are turning over in their...
That is nice but ill almost have to put my coat on first then my muddy harness. I don't like getting all sweated up when i get setup. Otherwise if i use the muddy harness my binos are under my coat so I cant really zip it.
Do they make a bino harness that just straps around your body and doesn't go over your shoulders? Here is my current morning routine:
- hike in with binos in bag, coat is usually hooked to the top loop on bag
- get in stand hook up safety harness
- put on coat
- oh shit, I need to put on my...
Okay I need to learn something, what are catch and release bucks? I am assuming they escaped from a deer farm, were caught, and released into the wild? But the idea of that is bonkers so I have to be wrong.
Yikes! Say goodbye to any age structure you once had. MN did the same in multiple counties and it absolutely ruined the hunting. Deer numbers are way down and age structure is down. They set theirs up a little bit differently (arguably worse), but you'll see the same results. Absolute nightmare...
The cereal grain part of it is just so easy so it makes for an attractive option. I pretty much threw some down anywhere I thought would get sunlight. I do think if the whole thing was clover it would be hard for them to "overgraze" it so much.
Funny about the farming, I once hunted a farm...
going to try that next year with a battery powered fencer I have. I've also done two rows of fishing line before too and it actually worked pretty good
No I can't, it surrounded by timber. Leads to a large ag field that this year is alfalfa.
The deer are like steers big bodies and healthy, we are in a large ag area and there is food everywhere. I don't think they lack nutrition, I think they just prefer the candy I just so happen to plant...
First time doing food plot this year and it's been exciting. Food plot is a 1/2 acre of turnips and radishes. On the perimeter I planted a chicory, alfalfa, clover, mix with winter rye as a nurse crop (planted it this fall well after the turnips and radishes went in). The turnip and radish grew...
Most of the farmers in my area throw the rough date of September 10th as last day to cut alfalfa. Not sure how different clover is though. I’d get it done soon if you’re going to.
I broadcasted and just drove over it with the four wheeler. Worked very well. I think skip makes a good point though on the no till and maybe that was more crucial, I just sprayed everything dead about 3 weeks ahead of time. Pretty good thatch to broadcast in to and it holds the moisture longer.
For post emergence I know a lot of farmers use Volunteer. It is clethodim and kills "volunteer" corn that comes up from prior year along with any grasses. Needs a crop oil. Also a lot of guys will plant round up ready soybeans, so just spray round up after 21 days or so. The longer you wait, the...
I can confirm 99% of Minnesota hates him outside of Minneapolis. Covid? Covid was an absolute dumpster fire for Minnesota. Between the lockdowns and mask mandates I can tell you it was a terrible time for children and teens in Minnesota. Turned the people against one another. The guy should have...
Sheds don't tell the whole story in my experience. Neighbor could have massive food plots/feeders/picked ag who knows. I would bet from Oct 15 to Dec 1 deer are using that timber/thickets, it looks awesome actually. I agree with putting some trails in and placing stands strategically off of...
