The Future of Iowa Deer Hunting and a One Buck Limit

If we’re talking raising money for the DNR, let’s just raise the state sales tax .375% and let the $$$ roll in. Raise it a half a % and they can use the extra 1/8 for administration fees. There is no excuse for a constitutional amendment to sit dormant for 15 years. In 2010, 63% of Iowa voters...

Subcommittee meetings coming up- need YOU!!!

I’ll post 2 pics here. The first was 16mos ago and the ground was in IHAP. The second is now. Not a single tree left. It was sold, cleared last winter, planted and is up for auction. Overall hunting while in IHAP was excellent. Deer, turkey, birds, etc… You could find them all there. Something...

2025-26 deer season change wish list

Nowhere does it say that your license expires when the tag is filled. The license itself is good until the end of the season so there is no “hunting without a license”. They could charge you with taking game without a tag if they thought that was the case. Agreed, not carrying a weapon would...

2025-26 deer season change wish list

Are you guys against “group hunting” or the sharing of tags? Party hunting is defined as the sharing of tags, not groups and pushes. At least according to the local CO. As long as you have a valid license, you can participate in the hunt. Late muzzy group pushes/hunts are fine, you just can’t...

Recommendations for Dozer operator near Chariton, IA?

Think I saw somewhere else where you said it was less than an acre. You may be further ahead renting a skid steer and doing it yourself. No idea how thick or big the trees are but just a thought. A couple different attachments and a weekend may be all you need.

    What Skip needs

I went to the forestry center while out in Portland years ago. They had a simulator of that first machine that you could play and get rated on how many trees you could process in a certain amount of time. I thought it was neat as heck back then. Still is. Would’ve enjoyed playing some more but...

    E bikes on public

I’m going to ask the local CO’s, both county & state, and get their opinions on the subject. My guess is that they also consider them ”motorized” but I could be wrong. I’ve never seen them being used at any of our county or state parks other than on the roadways. Are they ok to use on the bike...

    E bikes on public

They are motorized vehicles, the laws just need enforced. My guess is that most of the officers have no idea what they’re looking at. The bikes aren’t really common enough that an officer thinks to really look at them. If it was really addressed, I’m guessing the DNR would require a...

Trying to Locate a Pole Barn Builder in Southern Iowa

What area are you in Dave? I was quoted over 35k just for the slab and materials on a 30x36. The slab and footings were the big money. Then you had to add labor.

    Tags need to go

Parceling out the farm has been going on for years. Mom, Dad, and each kid get a LOT tag then turn around and get tags for shotgun season. A family of 4 could max out with 12 tags if they all did archery also. Seems that a youth LOT would be easy to verify. All proceeds would have to go to an...

    Tags need to go

My point was 2yrs, 3 deer it appears. And there’s no rifle season in January for bucks. Probably wrong but that’s just what it looks like in the pics to me.

    Tags need to go

Gov tags need to go. I’d bet that Drury’s don’t even buy them. The comments make it sound like MW just had to buy the hunting license and not the tag. Something I also noticed is they appear to swap out guns in the different pics. The gun in the middle photo above, with 2 guys/deer, isn’t the...

    Thermal scopes

I’ve got a Wraith mini that I’ve been happy with. It all depends on your budget and what style you prefer. You can get a decent entry level sight for around 1k. Unless you’re shooting at long ranges, there’s a good selection in that price range that should work fine.

Iowa AG supports Public Land Transfer

You are correct Cotton, I wasn’t thinking of Desoto or the different refuges and impoundments. I was thinking more like BLM ground. Agreed, it would be a bad precedent.

Iowa AG supports Public Land Transfer

I can’t see where it would have anything to do with Iowa. Is there any Federal ground at all in this state. Seems like she might have a personal interest somehow. If so, use her own dime and time to address it. If the state were to manage it for the public, and could guarantee it never went...

    Hunting Rain

Yesterday was the most movement I’ve seen in a week. They just disappeared after the pheasant opener. I don’t know if it was the rain or it just took a week to get comfortable and come back.
