    Business is picking up...

High winds last weekend had the deer skittish in my area but I did see a couple young 8 pointers pushing each other around and hitting some rubs. There was also a mature 10 pointer harassing a doe. He must be as excited for things to heat up as the young bucks.

    Opinions on scent control

Thanks for the replies so far! I also won't disagree that my sets need improving because that has been on my mind as well. I hunt a fairly low pressure area and the younger does and bucks will walk out in the wide open sometimes 2 hours before shooting time while of course the mature bucks...

    Opinions on scent control

So sorry if this topic has been beaten to death but I wanted to share my current thoughts to hear if you guys agree or see what you all are doing that's working. What I've been doing: In 2016 I put in the most effort and did have fair success but far from perfect. It involved: -Washing my...

Most coyotes I’ve ever seen- folks noticing this????

Meat Eater podcast or the Joe Rogan Experience podcasts are a good resource for this topic when they have on the guest Dan Flores. Completely changed my mind about trying to thin coyote numbers. He discussed wolf impacts on coyote numbers in Yellowstone as well as the war on coyotes waged in...

    Team #8 Thread

Congrats Jwest! I should have a doe down this weekend at least. As far as my miss I could definitely be wrong on that beings I'm not the best at scoring. I basically just googled 150 and 160 inch 8 pointer pictures and roughly guessed him by comparing. Biggest 8 I've ever seen in person...

    Late season tactics

In years past Thanksgiving weekend has deer hitting evening food heavily. Does seem to begin bunching up and mature bucks start showing up to feed and scent check these areas. Less explosive action compared to the rut but in my opinion more consistent from year to year.

    Team #8 Thread

Well guys I misjudged the range on about a 160" 8 pointer Sunday and skimmed his undercarriage. I don't think I even broke skin so he's doing good. I was hoping this deer showed up all season and within seconds it was all over haha. Came close to getting us some good points. Two more...

    Team #8 Thread

Nice job man! Good looking deer! I somehow missed this thread all together until now but I'll be trying hard to put one down the next few weekends. I should be putting a tag on a doe for Team 8 as well but I usually wait until the rut is winding down before I punch that tag. Good luck to you all

    What now.....?

This is happening far too often and the solution isn't entirely clear to me as of yet. A friend that was doing this on our ground left after we implemented some rules he didn't want to have to follow. Prior to that he wounded more deer then he recovered. Family can be a bit tougher situation...

    Hunt report / Rut report

Saturday had some excitement by climbing into my stand with a mature buck with a doe standing at 35 yards. I felt ultra stealthy but truth be told they were just distracted. I would've taken him but he broke off one side. Seen a lot of deer and had a smaller buck at 7 yards. Unfortunately...

    Friday P.M.

Not an in field report but seen the first 2 bucks of the year in my yard last night which is usually a good indicator. A fairly good 8 and a small 8 pointer chasing does all over the place. Looking forward to what the evening will hold

    Hunt report / Rut report

I asked my boss if I could work a half day on Friday because I wanted to make an evening sit with the approaching cold front. She said no so I started fake coughing and said, "gosh darn it I think I'm getting sick this Friday". Needless to say I'm getting to work a half day on Friday haha!

Awesome buck and story! Thanks for sharing, that has me fired up to head back out haha.

    Rattling

I witnessed an 8 and 9 spar Saturday. My dad witnessed something really cool glassing on Sunday morning where two bucks started fighting in a field and within a couple minutes 5 more bucks were in the field to watch it unfold. So obviously a rattling sound wouldn't be unnatural right now...

    Your worst mistake

This is my 5th season bow hunting so many more mistakes to come but so far a bad shot made on a deer pushing 160" often feels like my biggest mistake. In reality the biggest mistakes were hunting spots too frequently and taking chances on wrong wind directions or questionable wind directions...

If you have only 7 days to hunt......

Best hunts I've experienced happen right around Halloween. I would actually prefer to be on stand from Oct. 29-Nov. 4. That said all of November will have flurries with good movement. My second favorite time would be to hunt the last week of November when the estrus does are getting harder to...

    Crops in the Centerville Area

Our clover came in nicely and the turnips are starting to fill out with the recent rains. Beans turned out fair considering the lack of moisture but definitely not great. I haven't looked at the corn since Labor Day but then the ears I examined were on the small side. Lots of deer around and...
