    2024 Buck - 7.5 years in the making…..

I would 100% support a one buck state. The number one killer of bucks on my farms since 2019 has been EHD.

    Thermal drone herd analysis…..

I dont think you'd have an issue if you wernt hunting property and certainly not if it was out of deer season. I'd ask local CO to be sure

    Thermal drone herd analysis…..

Thermal drone for deer recovery is not legal.

    2024 Buck - 7.5 years in the making…..

I had a farm in Lucas county once.... I had a mid 60's 2 year old come into a plot one time. My labador was bigger than the deer. Baby deer with crazy giant antlers. Still very vivid in my mind.

    2024 Buck - 7.5 years in the making…..

Id agree that way more deer have 200" potential than people realize. They simply do not get old enough. Not a 200, but I shot a mid 90s deer in 2020 that you would not have looked twice at thru 4 years old. At 5 he was "Ok". Maybe 160. At 6 blew up. And I'm pretty sure looking back, had I...

    Brassicas

Crazy how much brassicas have greened up and actually grown in last 2-3 weeks once we started getting rain again. Didn't know it was even possible. Have never seen anything like it. These were very small, shriveled, tiny or no bulbs. Now, green, lush, and bulbs. Way past normal grow window.

2024 RC Big Rock Switchgrass- Promo

Yes.... but RC Big Rock is 30% bigger seed than even CIR. ;) Sounds funny until you hold different varieties side by side. You can start to see why it has so much more vigor. Bigger seed=more energy.

2024 RC Big Rock Switchgrass- Promo

Basically, a modified combine. Then extensive cleaning.

2024 RC Big Rock Switchgrass- Promo

Major success both drilling and conventional. RC is vigorous. If I had to pick, id drill.

    heavy sucker! Congrats

2024 RC Big Rock Switchgrass- Promo

Yes covered extensively in the Dbltree thread, but can help here too. For conventional planting (no drill): I would have it mowed this year snd depending where you're at geographically, spray it if you have a warm day left in season spray it. Wait for any green up in spring and spray or...

    Switchgrass

Topeka kansas latitude. I wouldn't fall plant ever. Sping broadcast gets my vote
  15. IowaBowHunter1983

    Switchgrass

Can you get the drill in July? I'd go that route over fall planting.

Thoughts on deer prospects this year?

On the topic of lost revenue there are some very easy replacement fixes. I'd start by making resident LOT tags the same price as regular tags. That would WAY more than replace any NR lost doe tag income right there. I wouldn't mind a tag increase across the board either on regular tags, provided...

    Diseased Buck Help!

I've seen that green often. infection. usually from being shot or another buck punching a hole in him. On another note, I would never have a deer tested for CWD. Only bad things can come of it.

    Tracking dog

$300-$350 in Iowa. Another 150 if recovered or seen alive.

Thoughts on deer prospects this year?

Yes some new strains moved into the region that our herd had no previous exposure to. Particularly deadly scenario. I do think we mirror the south eventually in terms of resistance.

Thoughts on deer prospects this year?

Ultimately good chance the deer become resistant to EHD. That's what's happened in the southern United States. It's basically a non-issue down there. The question is, how long does that take in the Midwest/Iowa ? 10 years? 50 years? Using down south as a case study it looks like 2-3 decades. So...
