seems like people dont like to reply to my questions much. not sure why. maybe because i dont have a picture of a big buck next to my name. well ive hunted for 3 years and im still working on a big one. sorry. but my question is. my brother ordered a non resident anterless only tag for zone 6. 1st shotgun season. he ordered it online. well it said he needed the liscense, wildlife stamp, and tag. it totaled 251 dollars. no big deal. but i was just reading dnr rules and it says non resident hunters must have a small game stamp to hunt deer? am i misunderstanding something? just dont want him to get in any trouble. especially when his 16th birthday is the 3rd. any help would be great. thanks. oh ya one more question- can you "drive" or "push" deer on public hunting ground?

I don't think anyone is avoiding answering your posts. Many are out trying to fill tags. Like me... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I believe that you need a small game license, habitat stamp and the tag. Your total sounds correct.

Yes, you can drive/push deer on public ground.

Good luck and I don't have a big buck next to my name either... just some ugly SOB drawing a bow... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The wildlife habitat stamp is all you need. They sell it with all hunting license. Sounds like he is set. Yes you can push or drive public hunting land in Iowa. I hope this helps, best of luck.

Be careful during shotgun season on public land. You can drive deer on public land along with a whole bunch of other hunters driving deer every which direction.

Good luck and be safe!

yes opening morning were going to still hunt my friends 80 acres. then after lunch were goin to do some drives. the public land i plan on trying out is just a mile down the road and its just a little 20 or 30 acre patch of timber that doesnt ever get hunted other arrowheads and mushrooms. if i do see a truck or any orange out there i wont even bother stoppin

I don't know how you got by without buying a doe tag and a small game license. TO buy a bow tag I had to buy a doe license, any sex license, small game license, habitat stamp and it totalled over $400.

Not sure why bow would be that much different than shotgun, you might want to double check with a game warden.

His brother bought a antlerless only tag. This is what my dad did last year for late muzzleloader. Non-residents can buy over the conter antlerless tags, but still need a hunting license and a habitat stamp.

You can buy a doe license, small game license and habitat stamp. As long as there are some remaining.

If you want an anysex then you have to go through the draw, are forced to buy a doe license, small game license and habitat stamp.

I have went with friends on public ground many times during 1st shotgun season to video their hunts and it is chaos, but if you sit tight in a decent area and don't move you will see way more deer than most guys.

Drive the deer if you like, but if I was going I would just sit tight and let the fun unfold. Best of luck to you and your brother.

One more thing be very careful. It can be extremely dangerous on public ground during opener. Be safe.

I have a NR archery tag ans was out in Iowa earlier this month. Hit a big 10 pt but wasn't able to recover unfortunately. Thinking about going back in early January.

Am I able to purchase NR antlerless tags that I could fill w/ shotgun or muzzleloader or am I restricted to archery only?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. This was the 1st of I kope many return trips to hunt Iowa. Awesome hunting.

Holday Tags are probably available...otherwise it depends on whether the quota was filled in your area.

i hunt in lee county in southeast iowa. i guess there was still 28 non resident doe tags left yesterday. so you could probably still get one if you hurry.

marley0902,
Your archery tag will be good again after gun season here in Iowa. The archery season re-opens at that time. Good Luck! Late season is tough but can be rewarding if the weather is nasty enough.
