2003 Iowa Deer Classic

Thanks to all the Iowa Hunters that made this year's Iowa Deer Classic a success. I know everyone enjoyed the World Records and I hope you all took advantage of our $4 off admission coupon on discounted Family Pass. Both of these were a direct result of comments from hunters like you.

I've had lots of calls and e-mails about this year's show and want to let all Iowa hunters know that we are very aware that we are at capacity at the Polk County Convention Complex. I like to think of this as a good problem caused by all the avid hunters in the great state of Iowa. But, unfortunately it has caused us to eliminate some of the less popular activities (Archery Shoot) in order to accommodate the more popular ones (Seminars).

We spent a great deal of time prior to this year's show comparing the 120,000 SF newly remodeled Varied Industries building at the Iowa State Fair Grounds to the 80,000 SF Plex for future Classics. The Varied Industries building at the State Fair Grounds is about 50% bigger than the Plex and slightly less efficient because of the column spacing and smaller seminar rooms. Believe it or not the cost of the two venues is the same and so is the available free parking. Both are conveniently located for attendees. However, the Plex is more convenient to hotels and downtown services for exhibitors. In addition, the VI Building was not able to offer us a long term contract with acceptable dates.

So, after great thought, the Iowa Deer Classic is pleased to announce that we have made a commitment to the Polk County Convention Complex for 2003 and 2004, and then the New Iowa Events Center for our 2005 event. When we move to the Iowa Events Center in 2005 we will have more than two times the space and will be able to expand the exhibit floor, bring back our archery tournaments and other activities.

Until then I point out that 60% of Deer Classic attendance is on Saturday. Until we move to the Iowa Events Center I might suggest a Friday (15% of Attendance) or a Sunday (25% of Attendance)visit.

Next, due to the a change in dates by the NSSF for the 2003 SHOT Show the 2003 Iowa Deer Classic will be held March 7, 8 & 9 next year. Mark your calander and I hope to see you all there.

Hope you enjoyed this year's show and I'd be happy to field your comments or suggestions for the future.

Greg, a big "two thumbs up" on the Iowa Deer Classic. This was my second year to make the three hour trek to Des Moines from Missouri. Well worth it.

Do you have any pull with the folks who put on the Missouri Deer Classic? I'm tired of walking around on the dirt floor of the Boone County Fairgrounds.

Mo,

LOL - Yes, I know Claudette Roper who runs the Missouri Show and will mention it to her next time I see her. Remember, you do get what you pay for. The Missouri Deer Classic is a nice show and great value at only $6 to get in.

Greg,
Great job on a great show in 2002! I can hardly wait to see what you do to try to top it in 2003.
Attendees, I was there the whole show. If you didn't like the crowds on Saturday, Greg is right on, come Friday, Saturday late, or Sunday. You can easily move around and see everything you want.
