2004 License reminder

Just copied this off a weekly email I get from the DNR. Good reminder for bonus anterless season Jan 11-19.

IOWA DNR REMINDS DEER HUNTERS OF 2004 LICENSE REQUIREMENT

MAQUOKETA - Hunters planning to participate in the special late January deer season will need to purchase a 2004 general hunting license in addition to their deer permit. The special season is Jan. 11 to 19. 2003 hunting and fishing licenses expire on Jan. 10.

"The close timing on this requirement could catch a lot of hunters off guard," said Bob Sheets, wildlife biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The bonus season is being offered for the first time to further control deer numbers throughout the state.

which counties does this apply too? maquoketa, that's where i hunt, i may have to get more does!!

Muddy, the special late season is statewide, but like other anterless tags you are subjected to a certain county.

between my wife and i, i believe we can eat 6 or 7 deer this year....

might have to get an extra tag or two!!

Just read the DNR regs and, if I'm reading it correctly, these special late season tags are subject to the total county quota for antlerless tags. In other words, if your county has already sold out (which most have long ago), then there won't be any late season tags to buy. Anyone know for sure?

You're right NWBuck. Once a county quota is filled, its filled for all seasons. The two counties I hunt have been locked up since Thanksgiving.
