2005 Iowa Legislature

As most of you know 2005 Iowa Legislation has begun, the deer issues are hot and insurance companies are very serious about legislative actions to reduce our deer herd.

We need phones call to your legislators, members of the House and Senate Natural Resource Committees. All calls should be polite, respectful and to the point. Let them know your position on the following topics regarding Iowa’s Deer Herd.

* Let them know that Iowa sportsmen and women are doing their part to control the deer herd.

* Maybe the HUSH program should be streamlined to make it easier to get deer in the program.

* This year’s harvest of deer should be an all time high, with all the extra doe tags.

* Most Importantly Why Non-Resident hunters should not be effectively used as a management tool.
**** including your thoughts on losing land and hunting rights
**** the possible adverse population concerns of leasing etc

Go to this website to find your legislators

Along the same lines... Can the Kansas guys chime in here and tell me if you are going to have to choose a zone next year instead of being able to hunt state wide? If so this is a great example of how this can get out of hand. The Kansas deal started because one of the Kansas Legislators went to buy a tag in Oklahoma to deer hunt and could not because the NR were not allowed in Kansas (the story is in North American Whitetail a couple of years ago), the next year they introduced NR, then transf. landowner tags and now if I heard right the residents have to choose a zone that they are going to hunt instead of a state wide tag...

Onecam,

Great post. It is easy to gripe but this is where you can make a difference. Do exactly as onecam says. Make a polite, intelligent, well thought out, expression of your opinion.

Make sense and your voice will count.
