2005 Poster

Well, I finally got around to doing something with the 2005 IowaWhitetail harvest poster. First off, I don't have the talent or patience of some of you, especially Moosehunter. Also, who was it that made that beautiful entertainment armoire? I tip my hat and safety glasses to you both!!

Anyhow, I had some old boards stored in the shed from when we tore down the pump house under the windmill. I figured the old faded red paint with some weathered board showing through would be a nice rustic touch to the poster. Also, the price was right, free (or so I thought). I dusted off the cheap table saw and ripped a couple boards into strips. Next I cut a groove in each strip so that the glass/poster/backing would fit flush with the back of the frame. Adjusting the t-square of the tablesaw to 45 degree, I cut the strips to length. I really should have checked it somehow, as it was a little off and caused the one flaw I really don't like about the finished project. Since the corner angles weren't a tight fit, I figured I'd just use a little extra wood glue. I glued and nailed the frame face down with the corner clamps holding it at 90 degrees as the glue dried. It wasn't until I turned the frame over the next day that I realized excess glue had seeped along the joint. Usually, a person could sand out such a mistake, but wanting to retain the rustic look, this wasn't an option. Oh well, I guess I can live with being a wood butcher. Also, I guess I can just call it practice for this years poster frame, right, Limb?

Oh yeah, about it being free? I didn't figure that the glass was going to cost more than an el cheapo plastic frame from SuperWalStore.

Oh well, I'll keep telling myself that anybody could have bought one from WallyWorld.
