Well, My son and I went out Saturday in the cold and snow. Sat for 3 hours in the morning and left to warm up and get some gas in the truck. We decided at the last minute to head back out for a bit. We drove most of the way to the spot and then decided to sneak over a hill and into the draw I have a good treestand up in. We walked over the hill and got next to the draw when I saw three large deer about 400 yards south in a picked bean field running to the east. I thought at first that we had spooked them. Not long after, 5 more deer joined them and they all started running toward us. I think the guy that hunts the timber to the south spooked them out. As they got closer, I noticed that two of them had decent racks. I told my son to get down on one knee behind me. The lead doe got to about 20 yards and cut into the draw. The two largest deer stopped at about 60 yards and checked their back trail. It was amazing seeing them running toward us in the snow. Looked like something from OLN. When they bucks stopped and looked back, I put the bead on the larger one's shoulder and squeezed the trigger. He spun with the others and I shot again. They all ran into the draw and to the north, jumping a fence and heading through a pasture. I lost sight of all of them as they ran over the hill. I thought I had missed. My son (10 years old) was excited to go look at the tracks. We walked over to where the deer was standing and sure enough, blood and hair all over the place. My heart then started racing as this would be the largest deer I've taken. We tracked the buck up through the draw, over the fence, and into the pasture. As we crested the hill, there he was, another 50 yards out. I will have the pics of him tomorrow, as my brother arrived later to take some good pics with his digital camera. He's not as big as most of the bucks on this site, but he's my biggest. He's a typical 10 with an 11th 1 1/4 inch point (I'm calling him an 11 pointer). What a great hunt and what an experience for my son who gets to use his bow next year in the stand.
