Well, my dad, brother and myself headed out the first day of second season. Got to my spot that sits on the edge of a freshly disked field and timber. I was on my "lucky tree", as I've taken birds in this spot 3 of 4 years now. At around 6, I heard a gobble to the Northwest, right where my brother and dad were set up. I was facing the field and had a jake and hen decoy about 15 yards out. Just as it was light enough to really see well, the birds started gobbling all around me. They sounded very close. I slowly looked up and to my left to see a jake in the tree next to me. He never made me, so I was still ok. I sat very still. They kept gobbling and when they would settle down, some crows would get them fired back up. It was amazing. There had to have been about 10 Toms making as much noise as they could. I made a few soft yelps and some other hens got fired up. At about 6:10, they started flying down. Some straight down right behind me, and some pitched into the field about 60 yards to my left. The ones in the timber seemed to make their way to the spot the others were in the field. Eventually, I had around 40-50 birds 60 yards to my left. There were two bigger toms strutting and chasing jakes around. The hens eventually started heading away from me and I knew the time was then. I made a few calls and the toms looked at my decoys. Not much happened. Finally, some of the jakes got too close and the toms chased them right toward me. Some of the jakes were pretty close and finally one of the toms got to around 40 yards. He was beind a couple small trees, so I leaned back and had my gun sideways when I aimed. He came out of strut and I let him have it. Dropped him in his tracks with my Remington 870 Turkey gun with Rem 3inch #4's. He weighed 20.4 pounds. 11 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. We plucked him and I picked up a new turkey fryer last night at Menards. Should be yummy.

Nice bird and photos! Had to be a rush having that many birds so close by. I'll be hunting in Kansas a week from tomorrow and hopefully they'll be bunched up like that down there. I can't wait!!
