Hope everyone is doing well and getting to chase the buck you are after or already got him!

I went to Illinois Thursday afternoon to prepare for the first shotgun season. Decided i would self film and see if i could shoot a mature buck on camera. Action started before daylight (i prefer to sit in the darkness around an hour before shooting light. About thirty minutes before legal shooting light i started having some deer head across the cut bean field toward my stand. My binoculars are very good but I couldn’t tell what they were.. one appeared to be a buck because his body and neck were pretty big. About 10 minutes before shooting light l had two bucks get in a little tussle, i could tell that one had to be small…

Finally it broke legal shooting light and could see the little fork horn and 2yr old 8pt that was fighting. They were on edge and i felt like them were seeing a big buck but i never saw anything in direction. I saw one doe and started seeing some more bucks cruising. Seemed like everything was moving in a south to south western direction. I had a three-year-old 10 pointer come by about 40 minutes after day light.

I was hunting the stand that I’ve probably shot a dozen bucks out of that works great with any westward wind directions…

At around 7:15 AM a massive rack big bodied 11 pointer about 80 yards away was heading straight towards my stand. I turned on the camera and turn the camera to the shooting lane that I thought he would come through. He walked into the shooting lane at about 35 yards and I pulled the trigger on the Thompson center pro 12 gauge and let the federal trophy copper ballistic tip 300 grain bullet do its work. Ran about 25 yards got tipsy and fell over. It was a perfect buck for me one that I’ll just euro amount which saves a lot of money and big body mature buck great management buck to take off the property…. His one base is 7 1/2 inches and the other is 7 inches. Biggest bases of any buck I’ve ever killed. Stay safe and good luck to everybody. I hope y’all kill the buck of your dreams! Now i’m focused on getting the kids a buck here at home. And i will focus one the buck i’m after after rifle ends this weekend.
