2024 Iowa bow buck

After 6 years of applying for a bow tag I finally drew a zone 5 permit. Drove up the evening of the 1st of November. Saturday morning i sit from an observation spot. I knew exactly where i wanted to hunt but hadn't been up to hang a stand. So at 10:30 am i went and grab four sets and hung them really quickly and got out. Weird east winds were the forecast. But my unicorn spot has 7 ridges that funnel upward to one spot and i hung the stand to favor an east wind but i knew ot would basically work for any wind…. In the morning with the thermals.

I sit in the rain 18 hours on stand and it finally stopped on election day around 1:30pm. I headed to that stand to be in the tree and ready before 1:45pm. Started seeing movement of doe’s and bucks around 3 pm. At 3:30pm i had a nice 3.5 yr old come thru and work the scrapes that i have dragged my Maniac 150 drag line thru and wet in each scrape. I saw 6 bucks before 4pm. At around 4:20pm a big nice mature 10pt came to the scrapes and mauled them. While still in the 2nd scrape and gave him a long grunt and a snort wheeze….. I normally don’t use a snort wheeze but all the bucks had been doing it. Wow did i press his button…. He bristled up and stiff walked straight towards me from about 35 yards out…. Turned broadside at 20 yards to walk downwind of me…. I drew and shot him, right through both lungs and he never knew he got shot…. Went twenty or 25 yards and ran into a blown-down tree…. The rest is history!! Wish it would have been colder but you take what weather you get…. Probably my last bow tag. I will put in for gun or muzzleloader from here on due to taking so long to get drawn for bow.

Good luck everyone! Hope you kill a giant!!
