It is going to be a good fall!
This fall I sold a 130 acre parcel and bought a 107 acres farm in Missouri . Close to the Iowa border. I didn’t listen to Skip & bought it (LOL)
It’s an area where I have friends hunting and this is a base camp for us . There’s an old farm site on the property with power and water … 75 crop land, so there’s not a lot of hunting locations. But the cover it does have it’s good, nice farm area…
We put up 3 stands on Friday and tried to be as quiet as possible. Not ideal, but it is what it is… This stand was in a Shingle Oak along a fence line. Move funnel between 2 small crop fields and it borders nasty river bottom cover ! Timber, slough grass, willows—nice stuff !
Saturday evening it was cool and misty. I got out early. At 5 pm I heard a noise in the slough grass/willow bottom. Looked & didn’t see anything, then I heard it again. There was a nice buck heading to my tree line. With a bean field to my south.
He steps out, at 28 yds. I drew back, I think he may have heard me. Stops and look at the fence line, not at me . The Shingle Oak leaves concealed me well I took my time and drilled him right behind the shoulder (heart shot)!
He didn’t go 30 yds as his front legs gave out and he tumbled in the bean stubble. I was like Wow—that happened fast !!!
Second sit on Missouri on the new farm and I filled my buck tag . Brute of a body weighed 212 lbs field dressed !!
My friends and I had a good time celebrating after the hunt!! back this Thursday to see if my son can shoot one !
