Good weekend trapping. Got a 27, 35, 22, 45, and 42lb beaver.

Our trapping gun is grandpa's old .22 revolver he used to carry when he drove truck out to WY and back hauling cattle. He passed away a couple years ago and since nobody else in the family hunts grandma gave it to us. A special gun to use when checking the traps. He was one of those guys that you could sit down and talk to and listen to his stories from the past and time would fly by. I never remember him complaining about a thing or saying a bad word about anyone... truly someone to look up to.

#4 - while it was swimming around. :D We were cleaning up a dam/road next this pond with the chain saw and dad looked over his shoulder and this thing was swimming around. He was caught before the weekend was over. Ended up being the biggest one of the weekend but was really scarred up on its back. Not sure if it was another beaver or something tried to eat it?

There are a whole bunch more out there yet... they just keep coming out of no where.

I seen in the Harlan newspaper shelby county has a bounty for beavers. Been causing a lot of damage around the county.

Um... yeah! Between the beaver damage and loads of coyotes thats the two reasons we started trapping. We honestly seem just as much crop damage from beaver as any other animal. You can also see in this picture the beginnings of an undermined bank. :o

More undermined banks on our farm... I easily could crawl through them if I wanted. It is as close to caves as we'll ever get. They seem to want to live in these and make them bigger versus making huts. Maybe because they've taken all the trees out of the creeks they can't find any to make lodges?

Congrats on the beaver! Never got into trapping but it looks like a lot of fun. When I saw the thread title I thought of a reference back to my college days :drink1:

Honestly we haven't even moved our traps, these things just keep coming out of the wood work! We know of a whole bunch of other spots that we'd like to get to but dad wants them trapped out of this area first since it is causing damage to the crick and farm field. The other spots aren't as high of priority. I'll post more pics after this coming weekend but hoping to have another half dozen at least!

Thanks for sharing your trapping photos with us. :)

Beaver trapping is hard work, I did it for many years.

Tks for the pics sure cause alot of damage to river banks and pond dams. Lost acres along rivers due to the cave falling in and flood water taking the banks,

Just got a text from my brother saying he went and scouted out the place we've wanted to trap beaver on our farm but never have... he said there was one swimming on the pond right by him the whole time he was there. More trapping pics coming soon! Hoping to get another 7 beaver to make it an even dozen over spring break! :D
