Here is my second card pull this year on a piece of public I hunt. I thought I would share some photos. The first card pull didn't produce much, but had 520 pictures in 7 days on the next. :way:

I can't tell if this is a different buck or not. When I zoom in it looks like junk on his left side, the beams look the same though.

That is an incredible buck! I have always wondered about mineral licks on public ground,(I assume thats what that is) I would think they would draw a lot of attention from other hunters.

Believe it or not but I am about 100% certain I have the left shed off the buck in the first pic from two years ago!! I just looked tonight and am about positive. It scored right at 60 inches then but was missing a couple inches due to tree rats!! I figure he has got to be knocking on the 150 inch door. He has about a 5 inch split on his right side.

That is a great buck!!

Public land works. I shot my P&Y on public, 153" and change and missed a 170" plus the next year on public!! Good job!!

I think he's every bit of 150 as well.

What's the skinny regarding hunting near that lick if you choose to? Can you on public land? Just curious,...thanks for showing us some of what you found.

Nope, its still illegal to "bait" on public ground or anywhere in Iowa for that matter. The problem with the law is it is very broad, there are no set distances or types of bait that are illegal, just the "baiting" in general. The only circumstance that constitutes baiting is if the bait is altering the deer's movement. Lol hope that makes sense..

Great bucks by the way!!! Thats sweet you got a shed off that big boy!

I've always heard that Iowa, even though there isn't a ton of public ground, has some of the best around. Your pics certainly testify to that! Good luck with that stud this year!

Thanks guys, I like him. There are two bucks I saw on this piece during bow season I am trying to find but no luck. Part of the problem is the salt is actually on a piece of private that I got access to walk across. Its a long ways a way from where I'd liketo put it. Its basically a crop field with about a 40 yard wide shrubby draw inbetween the fields. I didn't want to put salt in the public and have everyone and their brother inlaw hunting over it. I actually buried it and put brush over it when I pulled the cam. I typically hunt a good 500 yards away from the area down in some thick nasty stuff but based on the times the bigger buck is getting there, I am hoping that is where he is coming from.
