A new bowhunter is born

I received a gift certificate for my birthday on Sunday. I figured I'd use it so I went to Scheel's on Monday and put a new PSE Predator on layaway. I'm new to the whole bowhunting scene and will be excited when I actually pick it up next month. It's just a basic one-cam with a quiver, sights and an arrow rest. Did I do okay with the PSE for a starter bow? Am I likely to "upgrade" to a Hoyt or a Matthews or do you think I will be pleased with the PSE and shoot it for at least 2 or 3 years? What are the "must have" accessories that I should consider purchasing?

Thank you for your help

idsman, sounds like you have all you need except some arrows and maybe a tree stand. the next thing you need to do is practice practice practice.
good luck with your new found hobby.
a hobby is what you may call it now but next year it will be an obsission.

i started out with a pse and after about 4 or 5 years moved up to a mathews and figured out that they both kill deer what i would do is slowly upgrade you bow accessories over time for when you do decide to upgrade your bow it isnt as hard on your wallet you will need to get a good release and a tree stand and pratice good look

idsman - great bow for a beginner. we sell them down here in coralville scheels also. if i would recommend something for the future it would be a new rest and different sights. if you're going to hunt this fall i always suggest muzzy broadheads on a goldtip arrow...but there are literally 100's of combos you can go with. get a good stabilizer and some limbsavers when you get some extra $$$ built up also. a bowcase to protect your bow from skidding around on the bed of your truck or to keep people from "playing" with it and breaking stuff.

if you get a chance when you pick up your bow go up and try out a MT Sport from Hoyt. I think those packages have a little more bang for the buck. that and i'm biased since i shoot a hoyt now!! don't get me wrong, that predator package is a great way to go too.

good luck

.

MUDDY- I HAVE BEEN MEANING TO ASK YOU THIS QUESTION. BEFORE I BOUGHT MY PREDATOR I COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO ON IT. NOT EVEN ON THE PSE WEB SITE. IS THE NAME "PREDATOR" A NAME THAT SCHEELS USES AND AND IT IS CALLED SOMETHING ELSE BY ANOTHER DEALER?? JUST WONDERING. I HOPE YOU DONT MIND IF I PICK YOUR BRAIN FOR HELP IF I NEED IT. I ADDED LIMBSAVERS, STRING LEECHES, AND A STABILIZER. SO FAR I LIKE THE WAY IT SHOOTS. THE SEASON IS GETTING CLOSER AND I FOR ONE CANT WAIT!!!

as far as i know you can't get the "Predator" model bow anywhere except at Scheels. We have them specially make it for us and put our name on it. If you have any specific questions other than that private message me and I'll try to help out...if I can. The bonus of this bow is the double warranty...one from PSE and one from Scheels, can't really go wrong.

I appreciate everyone's input. I was thinking about limb savers, stabilizer, and a string silencer plus a soft case.
What is everyone's opinion on the best stabilizer and limb savers?

The fellows at Scheel's told me that the Predator is exclusively a Scheel's product. I'm guessing my T/C Omega w/camo stock AND camo barrel is also exclusive to Scheel's.
It's interesting how that all works. Well, time to get back to work.

Thanks again. Good to know that I made a decent choice. I once owned a PSE Nova. An ex-girlfriend made it "disappear" before I could shoot it. Funny how that works too.

THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY WARRENTY QUESTION. NOW FOR ANOTHER. THIS YEAR I AM GOING TO USE THE SITE AND REST THAT CAME WITH MY PREDATOR. WHEN I UPGRADE THEM WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? THANKS

I'm no archery expert but I've been in a few archery shops over the last year and the rest that seems to be the rave is the "Whisker-Biscuit".
