I don't think we can generalize that. I think it depends on specific trees and even specific areas each year. On a given year, I've seen good masts on one property and poor on another. They will typically skip a year or two between good masts. I haven't been out lately to see what my hunting grounds look like, last year a good majority of them had a decent mast. The year prior, it was pretty spotty.
I would think the rainfall we've had would make a better year for some of the trees.
I kinda like the areas that have thin years myself, if you can find one tree that has a decent mast, you may have a great stand site for early season.
