Well seems like yesterday i skipped my first class at Iowa State...and after only 4.5 years I graduated, and commisioned as a 2LT in the Army. Well I just got my orders today and I am stationed in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii home of the 25th ID. This means that after OBC and Ranger School I will head to the land of the sun and no whitetails. I did find out they have several exotic species for me to hunt though and they even have pheasants and turkeys! Wonder what the ditches look like over there

. I guess I will have to wait to come back to the land of the giants but thanks to all for posting pics and sharing knowledge of these great animals. I was lucky enough to shoot a wallhanger here so i feel blessed. Heck the way things are going I might have to take a loan out to hunt in Iowa after i come back. I can see it now me passing on a 125" blacktail because i think he's a 2.5 yr old!

If I didn't have IW id go stir crazy. I think I'm the only one that doesn't have access to whitetail and blacktail are 500 miles away. I bet he'll be back on Rudd.

Good luck in your travels pupchowmn.

Congrats and Thanks-
Your moving to the most beautiful place in the world. Do me a favor, when you get to Hawaii take a deep breathe for me. The smell of Hawaii is unbelievable. By the way Hawaii has alot of hogs. They can unt them year around. Also, turkey hunting is the really good too. The big Island has alot of both. A local would be happy to take you out. Good luck, Mahalo!!

damn, i wish i was going with you!

Its minus 3 here in Wisconsin today. Wind chill is -23. Enjoy Hawaii for what it offers- thats a once in a lifetime chance. Maybe there's some hunting, and thats great. But absorb yourself in the food, the culture. Take up surfing or fishing. Go to as many places and do as many things as you can that you can't get in Iowa or the Midwest. Someday, you'll probably come home to the place you love and are most comfortable...to hunt. But make the most of the time away. You'll never forget it.

Hawaii requires bowhunter education certification to hunt there. Make sure you get on that right away. good luck!
