Dysart man gets probation for deer buzzing

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- A man who authorities say used a parachute plane to drive deer toward a hunter near the Tama and Benton county line was fined $1,000 and placed on one year probation.

Steven Douglas Risse, 59, of Dysart, was found guilty on May 31 of using an aircraft to harass animals. He was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court.

Court records show that Risse used the powered parachute plane to chase deer toward hunters on the ground on the opening day of shotgun deer season in December 2004.

How can they even be proud of anything they shoot in that fashion????

It just proves that some people will do anything for a pair of antlers no matter how illegal or immoral it is.

I would rather harvest a 130" out of my treestand legally and work for it then to kill a 180" deer in the road ditch out the window of the truck. I guess working for a deer is more important to me than how big its antlers are.

It happens all of the time around here. It's very frustrating when the Game Warden's response is "Well, there are too many deer around here anyway."
