Had him at 5 yards and couldnt get drawn cause of my safety harness strap. Not the biggest buck in the woods but he got lucky.

 
I have had the same issue this year. Had a nice 10pt that i couldn't get drawn on due to the strap. If its a hard right hand shot and I have to get away from the tree, i have a heck of a time drawing back.
 
That sucks. Do you use the strap that comes with the stand or have something different? I had that issue with the strap supplied with the harness. I bought the HSS rope style tree strap attachment and never had the issue since.

Yeah I use the rope, and usually hook to tail that has enough length to cause no issues. I was in a friends stand and it is a large tree that the rope just reached around the tree. He was on the right side of the stand. Which caused the problem.

Keep after 'em and it will happen for you. Still better to be wearing a harness than not ... a lot of people don't wear them for the very reason you mentioned.

Keep the strap or rope around the tree as low as possible and still be able to stand and move around. I know I've had a similar issue before as well.
