I thought of Skip when reading this passage: "However, researchers from Drake University have suggested that the state could support up to 1,100 black bears, based on the region’s ample timbered areas."

Bear really don't need timbered areas to thrive.
Corn farmers would raise hell on them.

There was one spotted west of Oskaloosa a few years ago early summer. It moved up by Grinnel and got killed by a car that fall per a state trooper friend of mine.

They have been in iowa for years from one end of the state to the other.

According to at least 3-4 farmers/rural old folks (some might use the word HILLBILLY or other similar terms) over the last 20+ years… heard stuff like…. “U know, dnr been letting them black bears go round here. Seen 3 of em last week & they even had cubs”. Multiply that claim by 100 when it comes to mountain lions!!!!
Think we should introduce an opposition bill to farm bureau where all ag ground shall be converted to forest. When filled in we will bring in: elk, moose, brown & black bear, wolverines & several others TBD. With how cool that would be, FB might support this

We are seeing more bears in my area of Minnesota. I’m one hour from bear range, but they are moving down .

I had 3 on trail cam last yr…MN not Missouri on Spartan cam
