Another monster from the North!!!

I'll keep them coming for you guys. Here's another monster from up here this fall. I don't even want to guess how many booners fell here this year, in the town I live nearby there were at least 30 bucks over 160 at the scoring night, I'm guessing big guys were falling all over the province. Enjoy!!!

I've got some pics of giants out of Alberta this yr too, don't want to put them on without permission, the Sask one's are good to go. I don't have a pic but rumour is that a 202" net typical was shot about 45 minutes from here by an Alberta resident hunting Sask. We get alot of Alberta hunters here, too many, I'm becoming like the guys that don't like so many non residents.

That would make a pair of 200" typical here this fall for sure, I guess we'll have to see how they pan out. Of course this is Saskatchewan and a 200" typical could easily end up in the barn for the dog to chew on. I know Tiggy Collins' 2003 204" typical bowkill spent about a month there before someone saw it and decided it needed to be scored.

It's not hard to tell from a ong ways in you've got a mature buck in the open with some does.

That last buck is huge, that rack is BIG too!!!

I'm curious, how many are shot over bait? I've seen a lot of Canada hunts where 90% are shot over bait.

I'm just trying to draw a pattern (if there is one) to how these big boys are felled.

I know the last 2 big ones I shot were over bait (standing corn).

Nice deer.

Pupster, most of the local guys won't be shooting them over baits, a few will but the minority. I've never shot a buck at a bait and most of the guys I know who've shot real good bucks haven't shot them at a bait.

Any Sask. hunt you've seen on a video or t.v will way more than likely have been filmed over a bait. Alberta doesn't allow baiting so there's will not be over baits. The difference is that in Alberta outfitters operate on the farmland as well as the forest. The farmland hunts would be the same as what you are used to at home, smaller woodlots, proven feeding areas etc..
In Sask the outfitting takes place in the forest and when I say forest I mean millions of acres of solid forest areas, not near the farmland or food sources. In some cases 100 miles or more from the nearest field. The reason that baits are the most common practice in these areas in practicality. Good luck even seeing a deer in these low density areas without a bait, pretty hard to find a funnel etc. Even a bait needs to be strategically placed and few baits ever produce a mature buck.

I guess the reason that most guys I know don't bait is that we're in the fringe territory. That means where the huge forest and the last of the farmland meet. The deer have access to agricultural food sources at night so aren't as apt to come to a bait, yet they also have the option of huge blocks of cover during the day.

So, as for your # pupster, I'm not positive but of the deer I posted pics of none were shot over a bait, one I don't know for sure but the rest.....no. Like I said, most locals don't have alot of success baiting. It takes alot of time to keep a bait active. I guess some guys, like myself just get lucky from time to time or spend alot of time trying to pattern the deer in their respective area, I know I think I have patterned them in the area I hunt fairly well and I'm a weekend warrior compared to some guys I know.

Cool!

Beautiful deer. The whole bait thing doesn't really bother me. I really see no difference between leaving an acre of corn field standing or dumping out 5 gallon buckets of corn.

The main reason I asked was because I wondered how you even get close to a deer, let alone the several you've shown pictures of in those 100 mile stretches of timber. I just assumed you'd always use bait if legal.

Do you ever weigh any of these deer? I weigh almost all of my deer (field dressed) and have shot only 2 that have tipped 200lbs. Most of the mature bucks I've weighed are in the 170-190lbs area.

Keep the photos coming.

Here's another good one. It is actually from the southern part of the province, more known for big mulies than whitetails. Landscape is more similar to the midwest, far, country, rolling hills, scattered bluffs.

saskguy, what does ground go for an acre up there? I can't afford it no matter the price but I can dream none the less.(and maybe start a piggy bank)

Truetalker, you can afford it, unless you are like me. Far cheaper than there is all I'll say...FAR cheaper.

I should add, it's affordable but not possible, U.S residents can only own a quarter and can only hunt it if they are a resident, non residents must use an outfitter.

These deer, and the rest you've sent are some real bruisers. I had the opportunity to come to your province last Oct and hunt waterfowl, which by the way is also a dream hunt. To me, in the area we concentrated the land was real similar to Iowa's landscape just on a grand scale. Lots of little, Bush's, as you guy's call them and nice gentle rolling hills with a pot hole over every little rise. Lots of bedding areas to cover so it's no wonder a few escape hunters every year. The biggest difference I could see was population. Quite a few miles between houses up there.

Thanks again for sharing!
