Another velvet buck

My buddy shot this pretty buck on December 7th in Pa. He hunts hard but never shot anything decent. When he called me to ask if I had a hack saw I imediately ask him what he shot, all he said was he got a buck & wanted the antlers cut off before he dropped it off at the butcher shop. After I hung up I thought it must be prettty decent if he's worried about letting the rack there?

When he was coming up the road I could see it was a fairly decent buck for this area but I didn't expect to see it in full velvet as he backed in the driveway! I stood there with a hack saw in my hand & jaws wide open & told him there was no way I could just whack them off. I told him he was nuts if he didn't get it mounted since it was very rare. He said it had it's jewels so it had to be a testicle injury or hormone problems. The buck did not have a swollen neck & was thick with body fat so it's obvious he didn't participate in the breeding.

I told him I would cape it out & he could decide later. I guess after my continious flabergasted comments, by the time I was done caping it he said I changed his mind. I just think it will make a beautiful mount & is a once in a hundred life times harvest.
