I saw a deer barely get clipped by a car a few years ago. It all happened in my review-mirror in the opposite lane.

I turned around to offer assistance, but the guy assurd me they were ok. There in the middle of the road was the whole deer tail.

Damndest thing I've ever seen so there's a possibility.

It did probably happen when he was young as it is healed completely. I had another picture of him walking away. To young for a wife.

Seriously though. Coyotes often try to bring deer down by the easiest thing they can sink their teeth into and it's often the tail. That's my guess.
