I've been seeing alot of bucks in velvet lately. I saw three tonight. One was small, then a nice 2-3 year old, and an even better older buck. I didn't get a good look at the older one, it was from quite a distance.
My wife and I were in Coralville about a month ago. Traveling along highway 6 near the True Value store, we saw a buck south of hiway 6 along the tree line. Even my wife commented on the size of the rack he had at the time. Will be a real nice buck when he hardens off. Coralville city limits, but they do offer a bow hunt.
Not sure why I've started seeing bucks in the open lately. One of them tonight ran back for cover as I drove by, shaking his head like he was trying to avoid insects. Maybe the bugs are driving them from cover. Could also be that they are feeling the need for protein.
