Anyone have goodluck using "The Can" call?

I was thinking of buying the can for this falls hunting season. I was wondering what kind of luck you guys had wiyh it? If so what kind of sequence did you use and what time of the year should you start using it?

I used one last fall with limited luck. It did not scare the deer but didn't bring them in on a run. I had better luck with the doe grunt call last season.

I have heard both good and bad things about it. They say that if you grunt and use the can back and forth it works good but some say certain bucks will turn and go the other way. For some reason all of the guys on the Primos tapes love it and always have great results, not sure why though

I've also thought about getting it but forget every time I get to the store.

I can't say that it won't or hasn't ever worked for anyone, because I'm sure it has.

My one and only experience with the can was in the middle of November. I had five does working their way down the timber bowl, I hit the can thinking their may be a buck behind them. The does shot out of there like they hit a hot wire fence.

My only conclusion was this....the does thought a doe was in heat with a buck nearby and the group of does had already been chased all over the country side by bucks and wanted to avoid the whole situation.

Maybe I just used it at the wrong time of the year but that experience made me give the can to my eight year old son as a household toy.

I used it last year for the first time. I'd have to say that it works but is limited like all other "attention getters". I repeatedly called in a young buck and a button buck with it through the course of a day. First time I called they came out of the next hollow and wandered by my stand. They eventually returned to the hollow when they couldn't find the deer that was calling. An hour later same thing and then again an hour later. Next time in the same stand I had the same young buck come in from another direction and this time he was with a nice 2 1/2 year old buck. They were obviously looking for the "doe in heat" but couldn't find her. The little one walked past my stand and offered a quartering away shot while looking over the hill. Thinking the bigger deer would follow suit I prepared for a shot. Then he hung up and got extremely nervous. The wind was right and he wasn't in my walk in trail so I had no idea what was up. Then I see movement in a tree upwind of him and pick out a hunter with a climber on the border of some public hunting next to where I was hunting. The deer winded him and eventually took off. So yeah, I think it works but sometimes a visual like a decoy with rattling will seal the deal. Maggs

I have had good luck using it with a decoy and rattling. I will not hunt the rut without it. I have not taken any shooters using it but, have filled my day with alot of great action. I give it a thumbs up in the right situation.

i have had luck with "the can" combined with rattling. i will only use the can during the peak of the rut combined with either rattling, grunting, or both.

My brother and myself have had good luck with the can! Last year my brother had a nice eight point on the opposite side of the river of him. He turned over the can once and the deer looked in his direction and the second time he did it the deer jumped down the bank of the river into the water and was on a mission torwards his stand. Brought him into ten yards, enough said!!

I'm glad yall had good luck. I've used it in areas with large deer populations and haven't had any response as a matter of fact most deer don't even lift their heads. Maybe they think it's a sheep since they are in the area. If we could figure out their language and put some sexually provocative doe lingo then we would be onto something. I will continue to try because I've talked to people like you that have had good luck.

Straight up, the most important bowhunting tool outside of bow of course. If you can see the deer he will react. Blind calling is left to the grunt call and rattling horns. They will only last a coulpe years of hard usage-even if you keep 'em covered. Dirt is harmful. No freeze-ups and simple to use.One hand operation and compact. I knoe that Parkerman will NEVER bowhunt without a Bleat-n-Heat or two in his pack; neither will I.The can calls are responsible for more trophy bucks than You will ever realize. We have not seen a negative response yet in 10 years with the Bleat-n-Heat. Only neutral or positive.

But, maybe you should ask this buck about the Bleat-n-Heat II--------

I've used one for a couple of years with mixed results. I laughed at Ghost's comment about sending the does away like they'd hit a hot wire fence, because I had a very similar experience. Kinda makes a guy feel stupid, but there's a certain amount of humor involved as well. On the positive, last fall I was hunting with my brother and had 2 does come into the field late with only a few minutes of shooting light left. At his urging, I turned the can over twice and one of the does literally ran to within 8-10 yards of us. She now makes some very tasty Sloppy-Joes

Most of the time I've used the can it succeeds in getting the deer's attention but doesn't alter their line of movement significantly. For no more than they cost I think it's worth having one in your backpack. Good luck.

I used one last year (actually, it was one of those cow cans from Cracker Barrel

) in tandem with a tending grunt and had either good luck or no luck at all. Over the season I managed to get a P&Y 8 point within 15 yards and didn't spook anything with the can, so I'd say it's worth a shot.

Dblmainbeam, I had the same exact thing happen to me, luckily I had a "Back-up Can." Besides that, I've had great success using this product, but by all means, try and keep it dry!

My Hunters Specialties "True Talker" make great doe bleats. The can may be simple and fool proof, so thunbs up. But my all in one has also proved it's self.

Turned this one my way with the can last November. Used it previously with no results. I like it however personally I don't think it's loud enough.
