Crimson Arrows

Well I got back after it again Wed. morning on a new farm. It was really windy but I had scouted and new where a few strut zones were and figured they would make there way there eventually. I finally spotted one at 200 yards and once he saw pretty boy and my turkey skinz it was all over. We use turkey skins in South Dakota alot in the past and it still amazes me how much more effective the "flutter" of real feathers can be on birds.
Anyway, I waited until he presented a good shot and hit him hard! He laid there and then hobbled off and I figured done deal. My arrow was COATED but still, I left him for an hour like I always do. Adrenaline in any animal is a BAD thing. So, after a wait I go to pick him up and he stands up and crests the ridge!!!! I ran around the timber and came back the other way. One hour later..no bird. So, I took my time and finally found a HUGE log that I figured he had to be by. Sure enough, he jumped up at 3 yards and ran into a mult flora rose thicket. I ran after him and caught him by the tail. Lucky I have a girlfriend because the thorns gave me a few memories on my face.
I thought I made a mediocre hit but there was a HUGE and I mean huge 2 3/4" hole right under both wings. UN REAL! I really try and learn from each bird so after looking at him field dressed I constantly have to remind myself how far back and up those vitals are. Even when you think you make a good hit, they do something to humble you. He weighed 23 1/2 pounds, 1.5" hooks and 9" beard. Can't wait for next year!!!!!!!!!!! I will try and post pics again so I hope it works!
