Arizona Fire

Since I am only about 20 miles from this major AZ wildfire, I thought I would share a few photos. I am not the photographer on these. This fire started Sunday at 1:00 PM and has burned somewhere on the order of 2500 acres of national forest. Just an incredible sight, like I said I am 20-25 miles away and I can see the fire from my front door.

Very sad. I hiked the red rock canyons around Sedona for four days last spring. Some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. The cabin we stayed at in Oak Creek Canyon is probably gone.

Without much experience in that area I have heard that forest fires can actually be quite good for wildlife in the long run. Gets rid of overgrown forest areas and allows new growth providing better food and habitat in the end. Hopefully that area will be even more abundant with wildlife in the years to come.

Monsterbuck you are definitely right about the wildlife and such, however the big concern with the area is the abundant number of homes and such. So far they have not been harmed but it is just a stones throw away before this structures are consumed by the fire.

True, fire is a part of nature and all that. But the thought of the mind-blowing beauty of this region being damaged by fire, the best way I can describe it is - Imagine if your dream home and all your favorite things went up in flames, along with your dream hunting land. Yeah it could be rebuilt, but it would still suck!

I would feel bad for anybody losing their home but many would say they feel bad that so many homes are going up in such beautiful country. Sad to see thousands and thousands of acres lost to development each year.

Hope they get it under control and you are able to see the benefits to the wild game.

I am amazed with fire. Guess thats why im on a fire dept.
It makes me sick to see someone lose there house though.
Those are some awesome pictures. I couldn't imagine a fire that big. Makes our big grass fires around here look like nothing.
