ATLANTIC POLICE DEPARTMENT BEGINS PLANNING FOR IN-TOWN DEER HUNT
(Atlantic) Now that the Atlantic City Council has authorized bow hunting inside city limits to thin the deer herd, the Atlantic Police Department has begun organizing this year’s hunt.
To qualify for an in-town hunting permit an individual must pass a written test and a shooting competency test from a distance of 30 yards according to Atlantic Police Chief Steve Green.
“We are going to require them to be pretty decent archers if they are going to be shooting inside city limits.”
The primary reason for the tests is to ensure safety. The deer harvest limit is yet to be set by DNR officials. That number will be the basis for how many permits are issued.
“Permitted hunters are going to be able to go out and negociate their own land and let us know where they are hunting. We are also soliciting the land owners themselves to contact us if they would allow someone to hunt deer on their property.”
If you are a land owner looking for a hunter on your property or a hunter looking for property with deer to hunt, you can contact the Atlantic Police Department by calling 712-243-3512.
