This may need to be actually posted in the equipment forum, but I know this area gets more foot/"eye" traffic.
I found this on AT while doing a search. Those will closer connections with Muddy can probably lend more details. I for one, when I get home will check my sticks. I just picked up a new set not over 3 weeks ago.
CLIMBING STICK MODEL 70401 (SINGLE 20 INCH CLIMBING STICK) AND
2012 CLIMBING STICK MODEL 70404 (4 PACK 20 INCH CLIMBING STICKS).
Dear Retailers:
Please be advised that it has recently come to our attention that there may be an issue with the quality of some of the steps of Muddy Outdoors climbing sticks. Some of these affected steps may break during use.
Accordingly, Muddy Outdoors is directing that all purchasers and users of these affected 2012 Muddy Outdoors climbing sticks – model 70401 and 2012 Muddy Outdoors climbing sticks - model 70404 - to immediately discontinue any and all sale.
This does not affect all 2012 Muddy Outdoors Climbing Sticks. If (1) the ropes to the climbing stick are black with a “burnt orange” color pattern (figure B) and (2) the cleat has a single post (figure C), immediately discontinue the sale of these affected models. If the ropes to the climbing stick are black with a “golden yellow” color pattern (figure A) and/or the cleat has a double post (figure D), there is no issue with the quality of these climbing sticks and you may continue selling. See below diagrams. If the print on the exterior packaging for the climbing sticks is in a horizontal fashion as depicted in figure E, there is no issue with the quality of these climbing sticks and you may sell. If the print on the exterior packaging for the climbing sticks is in a vertical fashion as depicted in figure F, do not sell these climbing sticks. See below diagrams.
We will contact you in the near future concerning the procedure to return these affected climbing sticks for exchange, credit or your money back.
We apologize for this inconvenience, but your continued safety is our primary concern at Muddy Outdoors.
If you have any additional questions, you may contact Muddy Outdoors directly at (877) 366-8339, or via email to: info@gomuddy.com.
