I copied/pasted this from an email I received. If it isn't appropriate, hopefully a Mod will delete it. I think it should be seen though as many here have ATV's and also have children. I would be devastated if I lost one of my boys in an accident.

More than 200 all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashes occur in Iowa in an average year, and University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Kohl's Stores are working to prevent ATV crashes involving children.

Through a generous grant of $167,000 from Kohl’s, UI Children's Hospital will present Kohl's Keeping Kids Safe programs at eastern Iowa schools along with other community events. Upcoming program dates include:

* March 14 – Iowa Valley Community School Middle School
* April 6 – Ft. Madison Community School High School
* April 11 – Wapsie Valley – Community School Middle School

The educational events at schools include curriculum pertinent to children 11 to 15 years old; personal testimonials from patients who have experienced ATV crashes; automated clicker response technology capturing both exposure and knowledge; a tilt table that demonstrates how easily an ATV will roll; and samples of appropriate ATV helmets. FYI
The UI Children’s Hospital Safety Store sells ATV helmets priced between $40 and $85. QUOTE/UNQUOTE
Pam Hoogerwerf, UI Children’s Hospital: “It became clear that ATV crashes are far too frequent among Iowa children, and we are committed to preventing those tragedies. One out of every three ATV collisions in Iowa involves a child younger than 16.Most pediatric safety experts strongly discourage ATV ridership by children under age 16.”

Nothing makes me madder then seeing kids ridding atv's without helments!!! And i see it a lot!!!

have seen it time and time again. being on the fire dept we can always expect at least one call a summer for an ATV accident. I agree that a helmet should always be worn. Also not a bad idea to take the key out of your ATV when you are not home.

My kid cant ride with out his helmet and he respects his ATVs power unlike some of his friends.
