Well I am sure that I am not the only one with a tight budget right now. So instead of going out and buying a new tractor I was wondering what people typically use for food plots that can be pulled behind a 4 wheeler? I have used the little disc before and I am not a believer. Just wondering what people use to plant clover all the way up to soy beans any suggestions would be nice. Thanks

I have a 500Sportsman I pull an ATV disc made by Tatergate. It pulls hard, but it really does a good job. Bout $800 for the disc new. I also have used the king cutter atv disc. It works ok if you add another 200lbs to it. I wouldnt be scared of planting corn or beans in ground that has been worked up by the tatergate disc.

In the last year I have really started to acquire ATV implements. I have a brush cutter, sprayer, cultipacker, broadcast seeder, and have direct access to the disc mentioned above and a 2row planter.

There was a post a few weeks ago, about the Groundhog Maxx disc, worth reading imo.

The main thing is to kill the existing vegetation so a sprayer is a must. A good heavy four foot section of harrow will tear up some good top soil after a burn or a good dose of roundup. A good broadcast seeder will finish the job. :way:

We have a Grizzy 600cc and a flip over 4' or 5' disc. We put two tractor weights on it to help it tear up the ground. It gets that wheeler hot really quick but can turn some dirt. Here are some pics...

Make sure to mow down existing vegetation or this will happen

We even use weed eaters to mow it down in remote locations or a last resort

Then this disc and wheeler combo can turn in all that good green manure and leave nice black dirt

And we are on a tight budget as well so we'll just drive over the seed instead of purchasing that cultipacker

i had a real nice soybean crop that i made happen with just that little yellow disc pictured above and a honda 400 four wheeler. in the future i would either burn it off or spray it with roundup but i didnt this year bein my first time. i just made enough passes to kill the grass and then came back a couple days later when the grass was dead and drug the disc across it again then just hand spread the seed beans and road over it with the wheeler. it worked great. they got to be about a foot tall then the deer just went to town on them and ate all of them. other than them eatin em off it was a beautiful 20 dollar foodplot.
