I am looking to get a new ATV sometime this summer. I have looked at the new Honda, yamaha, and polaris. I would like to get one that is 500cc or more. Any advice from you all would be appreciated as far as positives and negatives on the three mfg above. Thanks in advance

Honda, Honda, Honda. That new rincon is sweet. I have dealt with several makes and models over the years. The Honda is by far the leader of the pack.

I bought a new Honda rubicon last year and love it. 500cc. Has both automatic and electronic five speed shift. Does the job.

One more vote for Honda. My Foreman 450E would pull a Moose out of the woods. All of them are in a big war to see who can make the most powerful 4 x 4.

They are becoming little "Timber Trucks".

I have to vote for Polaris. I like the ability to take in and out of 4wd. I know the Honda's didn't have that when I bought mine a few years back. I have the Sportsman 400 and it has plenty of power for me. The problem I see with the larger cc's is the manueverability through the woods. Don't get me wrong, I am male and more power is good I just like to take it through the thick stuff and sometimes my 400 is to large. Polaris has a new one out (ATP) that has a tilt box (not a 6x6) with additional storage. Check it out. http://www.polarisindustries.com/product/atp/default.asp Good luck with your search.

I like my polaris 500,but they are big and heavy.I ride with it out of 4w.d. 95%of the time.

I was in the same boat last fall. I decided what features I wanted and there were only two that matched. The features were independant rear suspension, REAL all wheel drive, low range, auxilliary pull start. At least those are the ones I remember. The two that came closest were the big Polaris and the Yamaha Grizzly. The Polaris has higher ground clearnce, I think it weighs more and is just a little bit bigger than the Grizzly so it has about 100-150 pounds of towing capacity. I bought the Grizzly. The price was a litte less expensive and the Yamaha dealer let me ride the Grizzly and the Polaris dealer wanted to sell me an ATV but not as bad as the Yamaha guy. I've never looked back. I've only got 70 miles on it and most of that is with a spray rig. The times I've had it in the woods......WOW! How did I ever survive without it? Steep side hils with just enough snow to be slick, up and over limbs on the ground that made it slide sideways but it grabbed right back ahold and up it went.

For my money its the Grizzly. If you want the name of the dealer send me an "E".

i like honda, but kawasaki prairies 650 ive heard is the best out there right now. my buddy is a fourwheeler racer and mechanic, and works at a actual fourwheeler shop and has ridden them all and says the kawasaki is the leader of the pack now. the breaks are in the differential, no more bad breaks, because they are sealed, none of those stupid drum brakes, he says riding that thing is amazing, the power, handling, he says that is what he would buy, and that is what i would buy too. i wouldnt go with polaris though, all i have ever heard is bad things about those and that fourwheeler shop my buddy works at wont even work on them. but honda is a really good choice too, the rubicon or the prairie i would say. good luck!!

I'm with Ruddbow on the Polaris, same sportsman 400. Its noticeably quiter than the 500, which I liked, and I have yet to lose pulling power before traction even in 4WD. You will appreciate being able to take it out of 4wd, two buddies have Rubicons and like them except the full time 4wd. So far I have 500 miles of farm type use, not a problem yet. I really think 95% of people would never need anything larger than a 350, of course I would take a 700 if they were the same price.

And who said the Rincon was sweet? Dude, that thing is homely with a capital H!

I too went with the Grizzly 660. I had an older Grizzly and a Kodiak earlier and this one would leave them in the dust. It feels so nimble it's almost like driving a racing type. I love the ability to turn 4 wheel drive off and use the 4 wheel posi-lock on real tough going. Also, the digital dash is a nice touch. Its my fourth ATV and by far the best.

My brothers wife is part owner of a snowmobile, watercraft, atv buisness. I had a choice of several models they handle, and have been on most of them over the years. My choice was the Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. Ride them all, and have fun making your choice.

I had 2 different Polaris'. A cyclone back in 87 and a 400l in 94........ Both of them required a aweful lot of maintanence......

I bought a 450 es honda in 99 and have not did anything other then change the fluids .... Plenty of power and reliability to make any deer hunter more then happy. But to take it out and horse around like many other 4 x 4 atvs are used for . I would not reccommend thisw model . It only goes about 44 mph and she is sceaming at that speed. Plus it has not the riding type suspension it has a work oreiented set up .I trail rode it a couple times and it is O.K. as long as the others have something simmilar. I plan to add a recon es for my wife to my garage this fall.

So I guess it depends on what your interests are. For me the honda fits the bill to a tee.I pull a trailer for wood, foodplot supplies, gardeningand lots of other hard jobs. I will more then like ly never sell this atv. It will be my sons in about 10 more years.

I have nothing bad to say about the Honda 450 es....... It has always done everything I have asked of it including pulling my tractor out of a jam a couple of times.I do not think you would be dissappointed with it at all.
