Awesome Saturday Morning Success

Saturday morning I took my oldest son Jacob out for the youth season. Last year we got lucky and killed one in the snow. Yesterday was awesome to say the least, we saw strutters from first light untill the hammer was dropped. At one time there was 15 strutters in the field at once. Thats right I said 15 Strutters, not counting the poor jakes and toms that were getting throttled by the others. Around 8:00 the hens started working their way towards us. we a few sweet calls to the ladys they came down to investigate with the toms in tow. We had hens surrounding the pretty boy and his ladies. Those strutters were not going to let that happen as one unlucky one came to rush the pretty boy he got lit up. Jacob was sitting at the edge of his double bull stool and when he shot the stool tipped over with him following. I caught the gun and looked back out at the bird as he attempted to run and then took flight. SOB i thought. After chuckling with jacob on his misfortune I told him we would go look where i saw the tom land maybe he would be holed up and get another shot. We walked over the rise to where i thought he landed and there waded up at the field edge was his second ever gobbler. Fell dead out of the sky. I will try and get some pics up later today after family dinner. And remember just because they fly off doesnt mean they dont die. Luck was with us on this one.

What a story. I'd have loved to see the look on his face when he realized what happened. Great turnout! :way:

Great story and I think you have a hunter for life now! Your son is a better turkey hunter than me! :)

Congrats
