Backwoods Foodplot. Questions.

I've got a little .4 acre spot in a creek bottom that I want to convert to a food plot. It's currently brush / woods, with some decent sized trees on it. I know that the area / ground will work, cause my neighbor has done a similar thing. My question (or FIRST question I should say) is can I do this without being able to get machinery down in there? My plan is to do it with a chainsaw and trimmers. I know it'll be tough, but it's not possible to get anything bigger than a 4 wheeler down in there. I have a roto tiller that I can use after clearing it, but I just thought I'd get your take on if it's even possible.

Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks for all the great info on this site, and if this specific topic has been covered, just point me in that direction.

Thanks.

Have done the same thing using a roto tiller and a disc behind a 4 wheeler. Spread the seed with a broadcast seeder, ither a hand held or a roller type walk behind. Has worked well for us.

And as far as stumps go, just work around them? Do you try and put anything on them to get them to rot out quicker?

Stumps will take a long time to get rid of. Can you get a Bobcat backhoe in there? Would make life much easier to get rid of them.

Try to find some Tordon Blue. I dont think it rots stumps so much as it kills the tree dead so you dont have a bunch of new shoots coming back up. Just cut it as close to the ground as possible and pour it on top to completely cover the cut. Hope this helps.
