Bad Genetics!

Here is a pic of a buck from today and here is pic of his shed from TWO years ago. Figured this deer was dead, havent seen him in that two years. Besides maybe adding some mass, he sure hasnt grown much. Huge body though.

I guess they can't all be world records.....

Looks like a decent buck and I'm sure there are those that would be happy to harvest him, including me.

That kind of reminds me a situation I had a few years ago. I had a buck right underneath me that I thought was probably quite mature age wise, but his rack was no more than a craggy 8 point in the low 120's range. Altough I cannot say for sure, I would have guessed this deer to be over 5 years old based upon body size and features.

In your experience, how "small" antler wise can a 4 plus year old buck be? They don't all grow 150"+ I suppose.

Are you saying that the sheds shown in your pictures are from the same buck?????????????????

The shed on the left is off the buck in the pic. The right shed was found 50 yards away on the same day. The shed pics were taken two years ago, thats why both sheds are in the pic. As for shooting him, I dont know if I could lay off. Im a sucker for mass.

I was disappointed too, when I found the sheds two years ago, I thought I found one heck of a 2.5 year old. The shed only scored 55 inches, I guess that goes to show they all don't get big

If I had 2 buck tags in my pocket, I'd use one up on him, he's not that bad, great mass and great character.

If you believe in managment you'll get his butt out of there. I don't think you want him to be the dominant breeder and spread nice 130" 8 pt genes all around. A lot of people forget in the management scheme that it's the mature bucks that need to to be taken out not the big horned ones.

I happen to know of a couple of guys who are starting to have problems like this because they make there ground a sanctuary and shoot the 150+ deer leaving the 8 pts to breed the herd.
Now all i here is they don't see the big ones as much anymore.

I know I wish they made extra tags for cull bucks but unfortunately they don't.

But hey, if you can kill that buck and he is 5 1/2 I think that's a great accomplishment and would take a 5 1/2 year old every year if I got the chance. Good luck either way.

I am with Tiffany on this one. Unless he is 10 years old and was once a good buck (and I do not think he is really old), you need to remove him from the gene pool.

By the way those two shed are definitely not from the same buck.
