is a rising pressure best for deer hunting or a dropping pressure?? i have been checking out the weather page all week and noticed that today the pressure is starting to rise rapidly. that temperature drop is sure looking good for this weekend...better get the rattlin horns warmed up.

I've heard rising pressure gets them going, but I can't say that i've had much success with that theory.

Muddy,
I'm not sure about barometric pressure. I've had some great days with a high pressure cell and clear blue skies. I've also had great activity with cold, drizzly weather. For me the number one thing is temperature and they are forecasting low temps for a number of days. Mix that with dark of the moon and late October I'd say it would be hard for things to look better. I plan the whole year so I can be outdoors under the upcoming conditions.

Good luck to all and good hunting!

This may be a strange comparison but I am a college student living on campus and notice the patterns of people. On days where rain moves in and the pressure is falling people go from energetic one second to completely sluggish and tired when the low pressure weather hits. I almost laugh at how predictable people are. When low pressure moves out I notice all my fellow classmates become frisky as if someone turned on a switch. Immediatly people are running around full of energy. Again, this is a strange comparison but I have noticed that the attitude of people is very similar to deer. You can bet that if people are all laying around all day sleepy and groggy that the deer a likely feeling somewhat the same. Something to think about anyway...

That actually make sense to me bowhuntingboy....i dont know if its' right...but i dont know much about barometric pressure.

It is best when barometric pressure is rapidly rising OR falling. It's easier associating barometric pressure with weather fronts, both coming and going. The best deer movement is nearest to these fronts when pressure is rising or dropping rapidly but not particularly during the fronts as I'm sure most have seen. Personally, I like to be out no matter what but if I had to choose I'd be out for the hours just before a good front that is forcasted to last a couple days. Anyone else agree?
