Bass Pro

Well this weekend was my daughters first Birthday party and she received her first fishing pole and tackle box from my Dad which he purchased at Bass Pro. I had to take it away from her because she started chewing on the tackle box when I noticed there was a warning on the bottom of the box that reads "Warning: Contains Lead. May be Harmful if eaten or chewed. May Generate Dust Containing Lead." I looked at the fishing pole and there was the same warning. Both were produced by the same company made in China.

The tackle box was empty, no sinkers or anything so the only thing I can figure is it must be in the paint. Anyways, can you believe they would sell something like this or I am over reacting? It just doesn't seem right to me to sell a product that contains lead knowing that little kids will be using it.

I think I am more upset we had to throw away her first tackle box and fishing pole even though she doesn't know what it is. Oh well I guess....

I wouldn't throw away the stuff. She's 1 year old? Just don't let her chew on it. Is she going to be fishing for gills w/ splitshot & a bobber? What about crappie jigs? Lead & fishing go hand in hand. Just don't let her eat it. She'll be fine, we all survived this long living w/ lead. :)

Ever notice how EVERYTHING causes birth defects in California?

You ever see the majority of people from California? I can believe the birth defect thing :) Oh I know, it's not a big deal just over reaction. I have been involved with a few projects removing lead based paints etc and you have to suit up like your going out of space to be in the area. They take it very seriously but your right she will most likely be using lead split shots etc... :)

"MADE IN CHINA"...contains lead

does that really surprise you? I don't think you're overreacting.

If anything Basspro shouldn't be selling items made anywhere other than USA.

What is made in the USA anymore? I worked for a company that used John Deere parts, and even those said Made in Mexico, Boxed in the USA.

Ditto! But, as a father of a fishing princess with her own tackle box, I completely understand your concern and questions. I know some who would never think that way and never question it, so hats off to you! :way:
