Best bow for the money??

I know many of you are gonna go with what you shoot, but If you wanted to get into bow hunting after a 17yr hiatus what would you go with? I'm looking for a good mid range $$ bow (like $400/bow, couple hundred in accessories).

I shot a Bear or fred bear back then, hated it. Now the improvements are mind-boggling to me. I have a mathews/mission dealer close, but have not shot yet......I know that this is the most important but looking for insight first.

What questions really need to be asked before buying?

Check out the bowtech assassin with the r.a.k package. Bow, test, sight, and quiver for about 600. 333 fps.

I had an assassin last year, I really liked it, but my wife bought me a new prime centroid so I parted with it. Anyways, I saw Martin had a bow for 450, I can't think of what it's called but they have sweet lookin bows for fair price, and I would say they are good, they just don't make junk bows anymore.

The PSE Brute is around $400 for the bare bow. Package wouldn't cost too much. One of the best deals for the money out there. Sweet shooter too.

Head to your nearest Archery shop and look at the used stuff. Lots of guys trade every year with not many shots on their bow. Just an idea.

The martin stuff is very fast and comfortable to shoot, I personally went in to get a PSE brute and left with a martin. Very good company/history/quality for the money. My entire set up was about $550

Shoot as many as you can at shops. Go to bass pro and shoot a bunch. I just bought a used bow from the classifieds on archerytalk.com this winter. There are TONS of people selling on that site all the time. Take a little time and you'll find a good deal. I was able to find a 2011 Qwest Smoke with only 100 or so shots on it for $325. It came with a great rest, sight (that I switched out) and a very good G5 quiver. It's not a top of the line bow, but it's been great for me! Point is, look at used bows especially if you are on a budget, you'll be amazed at what you can find!

X4 on the bowtech. I compared (what I considered) the top 3 Hoyt, Bowtech and Mathews and found that I preferred the Bowtech the best. Then, I threw all my comparisons out the window and bought a recurve.

I have shot a 15 year old Mathews Conquest with fingers forever and my 17 year old son also shot fingers. We bought a couple Mission Ventures this summer with releases and love them. I still like my old Conquest, but just wanted to see If I could shoot a release. Great bows for the money.

Diamond is a brand of bows made by Bowtech, but a bit less expensive. A couple of years ago I was in the market for a new bow (doesn't happen very often) and I ended up with a Diamond Stud. Super bow, shoots and feels very similar to the high dollar bows I shot, and got the whole package (sight, quiver, stabilizer, etc) for under $600. Just another idea for you...good luck :way:

I got a pse brute x about 2 months ago for a total of $581.00 out the door. Came with pse sight, quiver, QAD drop away and peep and loop. Couldnt be happier with it. I like mathews alot too but for the $$...

If your ok with a used bow, like someone already posted get on archery talk and search the classifieds. If you want new I have had nothing but good luck with bowtech products.

Just got done with my search and shot em all. I spent a little more than I wanted, but really liked Diamond, Martin, and Quest bows... which were all right around $500... sometimes even a little less. The cheapest Bear bow isn't bad either. The Diamonds are nice cuz they come fully equipped.

Alot of great used bows out there=check ebay. I purchased a mathews bow decked out with mathews accesories, 9 arrows, a mathews soft case and shipping for $400.00
Theres always someone out there thinking they have have to have the latest and greatest when the bow they already have will work just fine. Just be ready to pounce when they are wanting to dump. Good Luck

For the money Mission is hard to beat. Best to shoot a bunch of different bows to find out which one feels/shoots the best for you. It sounds like you are not tied up with any one brand so go with what feels the best in your price range.

I have a pse bow madness xs. Costs right at 500 and I thought I saw them on sale somewhere. I love it. Very smooth and tests at 320 fps.
