Best Layering clothing for hunting????

So, this actually a big thing nowadays and alot of advancements and marketing to go along with it. Underarmour comes out with a billion in sales. have some of that. So-So in my humble opinion.

I am going to be buying all my layering for the year in the next month or so. There's Merino which I read a few reviews about, what's the deal with this?!?!? Can you wash/dry regular? Is it the bomb?

I need layering all the way from mid-october on chilly mornings to heavier in cold & Windy rut days and then finally the nastiest stuff late in the year. MY GOAL.... Find something that fixes this: no matter how hard I try not to sweat, even 250 yards, I break a sweat, clothes don't breath like they are advertized and I end up sweaty and then cold. happens early all the way to late season. I do dress the vast amount when I get to my stand, trying to stay as cool as possible. Which wicks away moisture, allows to breath but is super warm? what's the best here and is there some scenarios I should go with XYZ product & say later in the season go with ABC product? Any help appreciated!!! (and even where to get the stuff). Any ups & downs to each is fine. Cost isn't as big of concern, I just want the best and if I'm only buying a few sets, won't break the bank. THANKS!

My favorite set up is the cabelas.berber fleece with windshear. You wont get cold with this stuff. I bought the vest and pull over. It doesnt really matter how cold it gets, you can hunt all day with this and it is not bulky in my opinion. I always wear under armour cold gear a light sweatshirt then the above. I usually got to walk a mile so i will just wear a t shirt and light sweat shirt.

When i get to tree i hang stand etc. Get down and take odd t shirt and wipe off any sweat. I should probably throw it in a zip lock.bag but throw in pack. Put on underarmour, sweatshirt then pull over down to about 15 degrees or so. If colder i will throw on vest too. Never get cold..i hunted one morning when it is well below zero with just pull over, sweatshirt and underarmour and never got.cold.

I love the stuff and not too expensive. Need to buy vest normal size but go up a size on pullover. The camo actually blends in very good in tree.

It is not waterproof. Then i wear my goretex mto50 extreme coat and can handle anything all day dry as a bone if raining. That stuff is super warm too. Hunted well below.zero many times with that. I find myself wearing the berber fleece more when its dry out. Just for bowhunting iowa i think all you need is the pullover. Never gets that old unless its late season.

The vest is nice though to throw in pack. A lot of times when it is in the 30s i will slip it on if chilled when just wearjng underarmour and sweatshirt.

I wear the cabelas mt050 bibs at all times. Thought about buying the windshear pants in future but im a fan on bibs.

I am bettimg most guys will say grey wolf woolens though. Great stuff but wouldnt want to sit in the rain all day as you will get wet. I can think of a few days last year i sat in the rain for hours. The mt050 whitetail extreme will keep you bone dry. I can vouch for that one..

I also use the mt050 hand muff with wind stopper. Then sock liners and heavy socks. If brutually cold i slip on artic shield boot covers. Must put on immediately if going to use them.

I never seem to get cold. I did freeze last year once bad but got soaked walking in during a rain storm. Not much i could do there because i would die trying to.wear my other stuff to the tree.

I was just looking online and they have the berber fleece jacket with hood with windshear for $60 i am going to snag one of those up for sure as well. I am also thinking the 1/4 zip up microfleece with windshear would.be the ticket versus the light sweatshirt i wear now for my mid layer. This stuff is unbelievably windproof. You can drive down a road at 70mph with your arm out the window.and you do not feel the wind at all.

My grammar sucks, on phone. Sorry.

I always start off with a form fitting moisture wicking workout shirt. Something you can find at any sports store and most of the time you can find them on the clearance rack.. Something that is good at pulling the sweat away from the skin. I also go with the sock liners that do the same thing. If I can keep my feet and back dry, they will stay warm. If they get cold, I'm done for the day. And why anybody would buy this in Camo is beyond me. Mine is bright yellow.

As for base layers, I love the new Cabela's ECWCS gear. It's not super tight like the UA stuff and way less expensive. It does a great job of pulling that moisture away from the workout shirt and keeping me warm.

I have a set of UA, but mostly only wear the bottoms in the early season under camo jeans, but once it gets cold, the Cabela's gear comes out.

Once it gets cold, I always pack in my heavy coat and Bibs and will put those on once I get to my tree. I generally walk in with just my jeans and base layer top showing. I'll layer up once I get to the tree. I hate packing all that stuff in, but it's worth it when I don't break a sweat and can sit a whole lot longer and that is the goal.

Good Luck..

I bought the EWACS stuff at Cabelas last year. Like it a lot. Worn over the top of UA it does a great job when it is cold out.
