Blazer vanes - revisited...again. :)

Hey guys...after all the posts about Blazer vanes recently I had to go out and get some to try out. Couldn't resist all the hype. From what I read on here they are mainly for broadheads, correct? The guy at the bow show said that too.

So...I got 4 arrows fletched the other day...all with different tips on them..100 gr field point, 125 grian field point, 100 grain Montec G5 and a 125 grain Montec G5.

First shot out of the bow with the 125 grain G5 was right on the money...the 100 grain was a little high. I was hooked instantly with that 125 grain so I had to try it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Same results..dead center. Then I let a field point fly and holy cow my arrow was doing all kinds of tail loops in the air with the 100 grain..and close to the same with the 125 grain.

Now...my question is...I like to practice with what I'm going to shoot. I don't want to shoot practice broadheads until the season starts and destroy my target, but I can't get any flight with those field points. What do you guys do? Do you have this problem? Do you practice with a normal vane and only shoot the blazers with your broadheads? Is this clear as mud? Sorry...I'm just confused.

Summary...practice with what your going to shoot so I should shoot the blazers with field points....or only shoot the blazers with the broadheads?

I can't imagine these not shooting well with broadheads and not field points?...I've yet to try them but I really want to...I just bought 300 Duravanes though so I got a while to go through all those...I see what you mean but obviously something isn't right if your field points aren't flying well...

Sounds crazy. My guess is that your vanes are hitting your rest or your cable, but only slightly. Blazers are a touch wider than regular vanes. The broadheads are stabilizing the flight of your arrow regardless of the contact and, obviously, the FT's are not.

What rest are you using? If you are using a drop away then try shooting cock feather down or out and see what happens. Mess around with some nock positions if you have to. I get excellent flight with Blazers and field tips. Good Luck!

You should be able to adjust your rest, most likely up or down if its already centered, to bring your field tip and broadhead groups together. They should shoot exactly the same without having to move your sight. As for the tail spin, that could be alot of things. I would get your bow shooting field tips first than work with the broadheads.

Rack has the right idea. I'm also thinking there has to be some contact somplace. I shoot blazers, and after a little tweaking of my bow,(buying a new one)

my field tips fly just as good as my broadheads.

I've noticed some "tail whip" too, but I've yet to papertune after a new string. I'm hoping to be shooting darts after Saturday. I recently fletched some arrows for my brother (he's one of those pull-the-bow-out-of-the-closet-on-September 30th fellas) with blazers and you should have seen the look on his face, he thought it was a joke, until he shot them out of his whisker biscuit.

My blazers hit my cables and caused some issues until I did some knock turning, like Rack mentioned. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggetions...I currently am shooting a whisker buscuit, but am getting a drop away this weekend. Although the Blazers should stand up to the WB and not warp like other vanes, I'm tired of that thing. I'll give the nock tuning a try tonight and see what happens!

Don't know what to tell you. I've been shooting the same set up (Blazers through a Biscuit) with both 100 grain field points and 100 grain Montecs. No adjustments have been needed for me. The Blazers aren't tall enought to make contact with the edge of the Biscuit, so it must be something else...
