Blood red antler core?

Here is my most recent shed found Sunday, February 4, 2001 (number 31). The antler rats (squirrels) had it eaten down into the snow. The core is red as it appears in the picture. (I have never seen the core red like this before.)

i have found one that is red too and had a distinct smell to it. Thats odd? What causes this. I have found a bunch of freshly chewed on antlers and have only seen this once.

Not sure why or how but would love to learn about this.

Anyone?

This is an easy one.

The tree rat busted out one of its teeth and continued on a chew'n!
